Newcitygirl Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Does the total thread disappear if you delete it on both ends?
Jj66 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 It's best to assume that things you post online, including in private messages, never completely disappear even when deleted. At a minimum, the contents will most likely still be kept in a database somewhere. It will be marked deleted, which means don't show it in the UI but it's still there sitting in the server's storage. The contents may also be cached on local computers or on intermediate nodes in the network. Because of this, never ever write anything online you'd want to take back or that would embarrass you if it later came to light. 3
Author Newcitygirl Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 I just deleted a thread of a guy who canceled me 2 hours before the date. So I went ahead and deleted the three. So when one person deletes it disappears from the inbox, but not data base part is that correct?

The only way to really delete or erase your footprint on someone else's profile is to delete your entire profile otherwise it remains until that person decides to delete your conversation as well.

On okcupid, even deleting your own profile won't remove their copy of your messages though - you'll just see a message that the user no longer has an account, or they've disabled their profile.

Yeah, it's been a while since I've done OKCupid. I know on other OLD sites, if you delete your profile or even just hide or suspend your profile, your conversations disappear. :/
Ronnys93 Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Yeah, unfortunately on OKCupid the conversation thread stays there. Sites like POF the conversations delete themselves after 30 days regardless of whether you have an account up or not. 1
