Is it possible to be "Set in your ways" at a young age? My hunny and I are from two different ethnic backgrounds, (he's white, I'm a mixed south-american latina) and Ive yet to take him to a resturant that doesnt serve chicken strips, for fear that he'd hate it!

He likes mexian food...but that's not the same as what my mom makes at home, we're not mexian, we're mixed, so her food tastes like a mix of indian and puerto-rican food. It's great!!!

He's from the midwest, and grew up on very, um...I guess you would call it "American" food. He doesnt like seafood, or eating anything off of a bone, among other little quirks he has about food.

He doesnt really like Italian food, but he likes the Olive Garden, which is pretty much americanized Italian food. I thought okay...well if he likes Italian he might be open to some Latin cuisine? We went to an authentic Italian place for Valentines Day, and havent been back there since?? Oh yeah and he likes chinese food, big surprise there, everyone likes chinese food.

I eat everything, it doesnt matter what culture its from, and I'm always willing to try new things. This guy's in love with his mama's home cooking. I tried her "Spanish Rice"...it had tomato soup in it ya'll.:o:laugh:

We're getting more serious, and I can't help but think...will he ever get out of his box, and try new things? Will he expect me to cook just like his mama?

Anyone had this kind of funny delimma? :p

my husband is kind of funny about eating Tex-Mex, he's an I-Want-My-Meat-Taters-n-Gravy kind of guy, which makes it really, really hard at times. Heck, he even avoids some of my cooking, unless it's huevos rancheros or tortillas from scratch!

however, as much as he avoids eating Mexican up here, when we go down to visit my daddy in South Texas, Katie bar the door -- he hangs out at the taco shops with my dad and can't get enough of that food. So, I'm guessing it's a matter of how the food is prepared.

do a little experimenting at home: if he likes grilled chicken, try marinating it in salsa, like Pace, before grilling. I guarantee that'll open up his tastebuds for spicier food. Or, if he's willing to try a kicked up shrimp cocktail, Cheddars restaurant has this Mexican shrimp cocktail that calls for chilled shrimp that's been marinated and diced avocado that's mixed in with a sweeter version of pico de gallo, and served with corn chips. I'm not crazy about shrimp cocktail, but that stuff is to die for.

just keep trying different approaches, somethings bound to work.

quank,

who didn't care for cooked veggies until a boyfriend's mom worked her magic ...

My BF is very picky about somethings as well..

He pretty much sticks with what he knows/grew up with..

Mac and Cheese.. for real He can eat that at least 3x a week

Spaghetti.. I don't mind this but we're talking sauce from a can

Burger King/McDonalds/Del Taco... oh yeah, he's all about it!

LOL Even when we go to a nicer place to eat he pretty much orders the same thing every time.

I have to talk him into trying new things.. once he does, he usually really likes it, BUT it isn't easy getting him to try new things...

I peresonally think that what you like to eat says a lot about your personality. Not only is eating a very...animalistic and instinctual act, it is extremely personal. People get really excited about food. It's like politics.

Some people try new things all the time, some people take a long time to warm up to new things, and some people refuse to eat anything strange or different. I was friends with a little boy when I was young who would bring his own cereal and food over to my mom's house when he and his sister came to visit because he was too freaked out to try rice and soy sauce and the vietnamese food my mom cooks (which is yummerific).

So I'm thinkin, no. You can try introducing tamed down, americanized versions of things you like and try easing him into uncharted waters, though.

I ate haggis when I was in scotland, but I could NOT force myself to eat black pudding.

About food? Yep. It's a guy thing. I knew one guy's girlfriend would complain all the time. He would only eat (seriously!) hot dogs, mashed potatoes, and corn. Nothing else. Ever. Drove her nuts.
