kmpisces Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I have a friend who always has problems. She cannot help it of course. But sometimes it is hard to listen to negativity all the time. I do want to be supportive. Any advice?
preraph Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 You can interrupt after a decent amount of listening and say with a smile, Let's change the subject. This is too depressing. If she still doesn't change it, say, "Seriously, let's talk about something fun and take a break from this depressing stuff."
Author kmpisces Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 Thank you for the advice. I think I am going to try that. It sounds reasonable to me.
preraph Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 If she still digs in after you tell her that, tell her you feel it's your obligation as a friend to distract her from her problems and make her have fun.
