I was dating a guy for about two months, we were friends first and became really close, then were pretty causal. Last week we had a chat (instigated by me) about what we were and he said he didnt want anything serious so we agreed for the sake of our friendship we should just be friends. He said he likes me, is attracted to me but that maybe we should take a step back to see how we both feel. He said he would like to give it a go but isnt in the right place (he got really hurt from a long term relationship that ended about 3 years ago).

But now he keeps texting me. At first I was fine with this but then realised that Ive still got feelings for him and its better to take a step back until Im ready. I stopped texting him and became distant. He’s text me three times in the last 24 hours, me only replying once. I still really like him but just dont know if he is trying to put me in the friendship zone or feeling guilty or if he does actually like me? I dont think its just sex because even after we had the discussion last week, we ended up having a few drinks and being flirty but he still said he wanted to go home alone and needed some space.

And do I reply or ignore him or how do I deal with these messages? I also feel he had the upper hand when we talked last time and feel vulnerable, which I hate. I wasnt emotional or anything but it was clearly him who called the shots. Now I want to be able to stand up tall and be in control again of my emotions.

You are doing the right thing by staying distant.

Continue that and start making new male friends and make this guy a low priority.
