berry1 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I have a first date arranged for next Friday. I have to be honest, this is the first date i have ever properly been on. Im a male in my early 20s but all previous partners i have got into relationships with have usually started off as friends and gradually gone up. So i cant say i have ever actually been on a planned date with a woman who i have no idea of how formally i should dress for. I have never met this woman in person. This will be our first face to face conversation when we meet for a date. It will be at a nice restaurant. Casual or Formal dating clothes for this guys? i don't want to under dress or overdress lol. 1
Satu Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Smart casual. Wear clothes you feel good in. Take care. 1
samantha_t85 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Unless it's a place that requires a dress code (which I wouldn't advise for a first date anyways), I'd go with polished casual. Nicely tailored dark jeans with a tee + casual blazer or a sweater.
Author berry1 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Appreciate the replies. What do you guys think of the Ted Baker DOM Funnel Neck Jacket in gray? Im thinking its a nice cross between formal and casual. But i would appreciate any replies on if this is suitable. Funnel neck jersey jacket - Charcoal | Jackets & Coats | Ted Baker UK This with a pair of dark Levie Jeans and some Black rounded leather dress shoes? Or would the leather shoes be a bit too formal and should go for something more on the casual side? I do believe men should dress formally for a first day. Because first impressions are extremely important. But at the same time i don't want to dress overly because we both are not even in our mid twenties and as i said I've never met her before.
Wayne0789456 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Does the restaurant have a specific dress code? Have you ever been there before yourself? What do you consider "formal"? I ask as this definition sometimes varies from person to person. Unless the restaurant requires it, I would not suggest showing up in a tuxedo, but if it's a nice restaurant I can't see how you would have a problem wearing a suit and tie. I'll put it this way. Do you see her as showing up in anything more casual than, say, a dressy (but not formal) dress, or a skirt of slacks and a sweater, with heels? You will not outdress her even if you went with the suit and tie. That seems to be your worry. Even if you were to hypothetically, she will appreciate knowing that you were looking forward to meeting her.

Please, no, don't go with the jeans. At LEAST go with dress trousers.
Brittybritt92 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 If it's a nice restaurant, go for a collared shirt if that's something you would normally wear. Most importantly, just have FUN! Dating is supposed to be fun and exciting! Have a great time

No from checking every detail of the restaurant website and going from a few other details i can almost certainly say they do not have a dress code. Although i have never been to the restaurant. Its 70 miles from my location so i have never really been in that area accept for driving through it a few years ago. Yes i know im traveling a lot for this but i believe she may just be more than worth it so yes your right underdressing would be much worse than overdressing. Suit it is! Have a great time Thank you Brittybritt Im definitely excited about it. This woman has probably shown more interest in me in a matter of days than my last girl showed in 18 months. I will drop you guys a update on how well it goes in the next few days. Once again clothing advice greatly appreciated.
