Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. But...

I have a child who is now almost three. When i was pregnant I was told I had something called Group B Strep which could be potentially harmful to a newborn baby so during labour I was given antibiotics and then the baby had blood tests once he was born to make sure he wasn't infected.

Does anyone know anything about this? I know a certain amount and have seen the website for GBS but I wanted to have another baby and am unsure whether another baby could potentially be infected as well.

Obviously having this knowledge prior to pregnancy is completely different to having it while pregnant!

i would try your General Practitioner.....the receptionist, or nurse may also be able to address your concerns via telephone.

Best Wishes!

Group b strep is fairly common and every ob-gyn will test for it at every visit. It is a kind of infection that doesn't harm the mother at all but can potetially a new baby. If you test positive for it you will be given IV antibiodics and then everything will be just fine with you new little one. :)

This won't have anything to do with you having another happy healthy baby.

Just for your own peace of mind though, tell you ob about it so he can watch out for it.
