friskywife Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I am looking for a counselor or psychiatrist to talk to/help me with some addiction, childhood traumas, stress & life in general. When looking through my providers there are Psychiatry & clinical Psychology. Which type of professional would I choose?
Pocky Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I'd talk to your general practice doctor and explain what you're looking for regarding therapy and then ask them if they could recommend anyone.
Author friskywife Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 Thanks for answering Pocky! I went to him a few months ago and he just put me on antit-depressants and didn't really TALK to me. I told him some of my concerns, about drinking too much and he just said "what are you gonna do about that?". Honestly, I just don't think he would be a lot of help. He made me feel like he was too busy. This is a guy that I was semi-friends with before selecting him as my general practioner. I need help soon. Not doin' too good lately and starting to get more depressed and taking everything out on my poor hubby. I just want to find someone to help me. The only place I know to go to is the list of providors and hope that whomever I choose will be able to.
