hello guys, I have a question for you and please give me an honest answers,

If you loved someone who wasn't religious at all and you were, would break after after years of relationship because she/he would not convert ?

Well me personally, no. I would figure out whether it's a significant issue for me in the first place, and if it is, I wouldn't continue dating them any more than a couple of months.

However, I know my mum has been in a similar situation, but the opposite way around. She was dating a religious guy for four years, he asked her to marry him, but she realised she could never fit in with his religion in married life.

So yeah I guess some people might break up after years of a relationship due to religion.

I guess it depends. Sometimes, religious beliefs equal incompatibility. So I'd say, maybe.

I think it really depends on where you see your future with this person and how important your religion is to you in the first place. To me, my religion is a number one priority in my life. Thus, I don't think I could ever really make it work in the long run with someone who didn't similarly prioritize the religion as I did. It's a central part of my life that all my other actions and motivations stem from. For example, it's important to me that I raise my future kids in a religious home. I don't think it would be possible for me to do that the way I want to without the necessary support from my spouse. So without that understanding I don't think the relationship would end well and I would feel the need to end it so I could find someone with more similar priorities.

But, for someone who is religious but maybe doesn't have it as a major priority in their life, it could still potentially work. What it ultimately comes down to is whether you value the relationship or your religion more. There's not a problem with one or the other, it's just a matter of your personal relationship with each, and something would have to be sacrificed to some degree if you wanted to make it work.

It just happened to me - exBF was Christian, I was agnostic (although raised Christian) - he apparently never accepted our religious difference, and although we dated nearly 2 years - the relationship eventually failed.

He wanted to ask for permission to propose to me by his pastor... It is still a blur to me, but I'm sure that the fact that I didn't convert was a HUGE issue for him :(
