rednails85 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I'm in a new relationship with an accountant (at a small public accounting firm) and I don't know what to expect during tax season. We will have been dating 4 1/2-5 months once it ramps up. Of course I will have a talk with him about expectations, but I was hoping y'all could provide some insight too. What can I expect? E.g., Should I expect the relationship to be on autopilot until April? How often will he be available to hang out? How can I support him through the season?
smackie9 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 People still have to eat and sleep.....it's not like he's going to Iraq. I'm sure there will be welcomed time to sit in a hot tub together and sip on some wine. 1
Miss Peach Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I would ask him. I've done some public accounting and I've worked in that industry in another role. It's really going to vary by firm IME. Typically there's a rush right at the beginning (late January/early February and then another one right before the filings are due in April.
SwordofFlame Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I'm also an accountant that works for a large accounting firm and will also say that it depends on exactly what he does. Just ask him.
scooby-philly Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I'm not an accountant....but I've dated people who were "busy" at specific times of the year. It's important to communicate with each other. As people said already, his level of "busy" will depend on a number of factors so it's best to have him tell you what to expect. Then you can gauge if that will "work" for you and if not, it will give you a way to go back to him and say "well, I know you will be busy....but I need at least _______".
Gaeta Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I'm in a new relationship with an accountant (at a small public accounting firm) and I don't know what to expect during tax season. This relationship just started it doesn't mean you'll make it to April, doesn't even mean you'll make it to Xmas lol. I work in finance (don't work on income taxes) but accountants I work with are at the office late almost each night for the month of March and April and here taxes are due April 30th. They still go back home to sleep, they still go out for lunches, they still return their calls, etc. Depends on how much load of work his accounting firm is taking on. I have a family member that works for a huge accounting firm and she does income taxes for the largest corporation out there, she has no life through March and April. I would not worry too much for someone working in a smaller firm. How to support him? ALL depends on what your relationship will look like when you reach that phase.
GunslingerRoland Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 When is business tax filing time in the US? Because I know here in Canada it's different than personal income tax time, and the time that accountants are more likely to be busy.
