By single I mean completely celibacy. It started as being a 1 year only hiatus after a bad break up. Then turned into three more years (got busy with grad school).

It has allowed me to be sure of what I want. I had opportunities to pursue men but have just been picky.

I do miss sex and want it again, but am at the time in my life that I want something committed before I sleep with someone again. This is partially why the guy ended things with me.

How do I announce it to potential guys I am interested in with out scaring them away?

Announce what exactly?

If you see a guy you like then talk to him.

If he likes you then maybe he will ask you out. If not then you can either ask him, or move on to the next.

No need to over think it. no need to make a big announcement "hey boys come get it" or whatever.

I'm over the whole hanging out and seeing where it goes phase. I'm close to 30. Is it too much to ask for commitment from a guy. I'm not asking for marriage by any means.

From what guy? A guy you don't know, who has never spoken to you? What guy is going to commit to someone he just met off the street?

I'm not following your logic here. No matter what phase you're "over", you need to get to know someone, and they you, before they will commit to you.

That process of getting to know someone, and deciding whether you will commit to them or not, is called dating.

It can be time consuming, frustrating, expensive and painful. But how else are you going to build a connection with another human being? There is no other way (unless you're into arranged marriages).

You can ask for commitment after a certain amount of dates and time spent together. Whether it's too soon or not is going to vary substantially depending on the guy. You can come up with a hard rule, but it won't work on every guy.

With access to choice that is OLD I’m just curious what makes you that special for some guy to commit to you right away?

And if you are a “good catch” the right guys will commit.

Thanks for reminding me of that. Guys have been told me I'm different from most girls)(in a good way) Just have to learn to not be a push over or place all my eggs in one basket.
