Most within my circle didn't vote for Trump. A few did, but I won't exile them for that.

As I mentioned earlier, some of my extended family are choosing to leave the country. I certainly understand their choice. They happen to live in less tolerant areas and have been harassed in the months leading up to the election. There are plenty of ignorant folk who can't tell the difference between Hindus and Muslims, not that harassing Muslims is justified in any way. In any case, those family members fear that the Trump victory will embolden their harassers.

While I don't see these family members that often, I will miss having them within driving distance.

Yeah, I will shame her because she did for political gain and power not because she loves her man.

Why are you mad that Hillary wants power? Of course she wants power, she was running for president! That whole job is about having a lot of power, you'd have to want power if you're going to be the president...I doubt Trump is any different when he ran too, or anyone else ever running for this position.

My in laws and I have argued about democrat vs republican for a long time. Our state has a republican governor we dont like, and she does. I was upset this governor got elected and what he is doing, but it just a bit upset over the things happening in the state, but also our state legislator keeps him in check as they are on the left.

This election of Trump is different. I feel despair, I feel loss, I feel fear. Also republicans have control of both houses. There is no check and balance. Lastly while there are many good solid Republicans I have read that many of them fear him too - fear as in life and danger to their families.

I think a case - a strong one - that the DNC and many democrats have failed to understand the deep feelings of white rural and former small vibrant towns that got left behind in the country. Their voices ignored, their fears, their despair. We ignored it, dismissed it, did not engage, and we are dealing with the anger.

I have begun reaching out to some acquaintances who either support Trump or simply were anti Hillary - and asking "what do you fear, what makes you angry, what causes you sadness about our leaders and Country" and I am just listening and not dismissing what they say. Yes a few have brought up gays and Muslims and Mexicans, and that hurts me to listen too - but more talk about some things I was surprised to share.

If you voted and support Trump, or he was a protest/anger vote, or perhaps voted against Hillary and just don't think Trump is that bad - and you dismiss 50% of the country who is not just upset- but experiencing fear and despair... then you are repeating our mistakes that got us here - and things will get worse. Its almost exactly half of the Country - nearly evenly split between Trump and Clinton. This election was so different.

Right now many of us are calling for a revolution - of the DNC - the party used to be for the least of us.

It's normal you won't master it just like it's normal I will never master English after speaking it for 30 years now. The people that are fully functional in both languages are those who learn them under 9 years old like my daughter. When she speaks English you can't tell she is from French culture.

Misused of the word. I actually meant functional by 'master'.

jeesus...saw a persian cat in a Montreal website that I want to buy. I called but the 2 ladies didn't speak English! My very limited French wan't very helpful. Have to wait for the male in the family who speak English to call me back.

Like French is my 4th language. can't believe there are French people who won't bother to learn a 2nd language.

In Canada there's such a strong swath of French-soeaking in Quebec and into Ontario and New Brunswick that you don't need to. If you travel as far as Edmunston in New Brunswick, you still can't necessarily speak English and have people there understand what you mean.

When I travel to a primarily French area, I keep my Smart Phone handy and type into Google translate. I've been all over Quebec (includibg rural) and have not run into a problem. But I will say, I hit a fair amount of Time Horton's drive-thrus while I am there.

Quebec has A LOT to offer that can't be found anywhere else. Like Rotesserie St. Hubert Chicken. LOL!

What the hell are you so scared of? I don't understand how anyone lives life in fear. I honestly have no idea how that thought process even works. I just can't fathom it at all. Maybe you guys should work on yourselves. Seek therapy on how to not live your life in fear.

People let their fears take control of their lives, then do stupid things like wanting a divorce. Or walking around it the streets to protest some faceless nameless fear of theirs. Love trumps hate? Well it also trumps fear. So get out and become a part of your community. Stop watching the damn news. Anyone living in fear seriously is disconnected in my opinion. Get away from the news, don't watch it. Connect with others and decide for yourself if there is something to fear. Ive been listening to the news tell me there is a boogie man around every corner for all my life. Yet, when I talk to people, all different races, religions, and political beliefs, you know what I find? Just another dude like me. Just another woman like my wife. Just a bunch of kids like mine. Regular folks, doing regular folks stuff. Some may go to mosque on Fridays, others go to church Sundays, some might have a boat and several cars, others have no car and ride a bike. Some love nature and the outdoors, others love sports. Some may be free floating sprit hippies, others are more strict and rigid god fearing Christians. I just see a bunch of people living their life for what is best for them and their families.

Fear divides us more then anything else. Seriously you are going to let politics and and some figurehead control how you live and think? That is sad to me. I really recommend you seek help for your fears. After all, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

We will find our mettle, our quality. 'For everything there is a time...a purpose under heaven.'

Our country provided two candidates among others who were dismissed. Our country, we the people have spoken. This is where we are....if we are a tolerant and kind nation then no POTUS will rob us....if we are not then we deserve the growing pains that we have brought on ourselves.

History is the best keeper of the truth and most foretelling of the future.

There isn't anything to prove, is there. It is not as though those who voted for or against a candidate will be treated differently or be less effected.

Unless a member of the elite who actually do rule this country, much to the angry middle class's chagrin, you've been played. Clinton was par for the course and Trump is an angry brat who wanted to achieve elitism.

Now he has it.

I most certainly will not terminate relationships over fool's play. We will all lose or win together in my book. I will stay in the trenches and continue to support what I believe in....I would never give any POTUS so much power over my life.

My loyalty is to Democracy, I appreciate the ability to say that and I will defend it as many others have...even when I don't get my way or like it.

Fear of a planet that will see it environment worsened, regulations removed which protect our water air and food, elimination of health care for millions of Americans, tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, removal of controls on banks and investment firms that could lead to a another major depression, nuclear war by a man who asked "why can't we use nukes", ties to Russia that would allow their expansion into former eastern countries, acceptable abuse and treatment of women, increases is racial and sexual hatred since Trump got on to the stage, cuts in benefits for old and disabled people, I could go on and on.

I am involved in my community - I have been in elected office (politician) for 10 years and done amazing things for my small place in the world, and will continue to do so. Yes, I have cut down on watching the news.

If you are talking to Gays or Muslims or people of color, or some young women right now - your not listening or asking the right questions... and assuming they are "a dude like you".

My point was - dismissal or peoples fear, anger and concerns and voices got us Trump. I heard them for years when Obama was elected - read them on Facebook, heard the negative emotions and hurt comments and should have engaged those feelings on the other side and not dismissed them as extreme right wing nonsense. Our county is split we need to listen.

It is possible that her friend went into a Spanish enclave in Miami. but we all know USA is officially uni-lingual.

French is asinine to me. No idea why the language needs to have gender, conjugation, etc...come on why complicate things? Don't think I will ever master it.

Not at the freaking airport. Uber comes in all languages.

What boggles my mind is people are thinking this is like any other election, that the platform he ran on was just what politicians do, that it was even remotely acceptable.

There is a lot to fear this go around and why there is a different reaction than when Reagan was elected, Bush, Bush, etc. If you can't see the difference than more the pity for you. Either the person is just too ignorant to understand the big picture or already finding to be their kool aide.

I voted for Obama in 2008 and then Romney in 2012. I voted for Trump in 2016.

Trump is a business man. Our country is broke. His goal is to increase our wealth. And it can happen; the economic engine just needs released. He basically performed a hostile takeover of our political system. He's a business man and that's what he does and knows how to do. He also won using far less people and money (Trump spent $4.57 per vote; Clinton around $10.00).

I have followed the man for 20 years. He doesn't care about gay marriage, and doesn't really care much about abortion. He doesn't care about Islam, but he does care about ISIS. His main goals will focus on lowering taxes (they're out of control here), healthcare (he'll go with Romney's plan), infrastructure *I see that as his main one, ISIS, immigration (no he is not kicking everyone out, he's following Rubio's plan).

In short, yes he's an egomaniac but he cares about his legacy. He knows he has to do a good job if he wants to be remembered as a good president. I know our economy is going to explode again.

Regarding the original question, would I date a Clinton supporter. Sure, as long as they could accept my beliefs (I'm actually more libertarian). There tends to be this all or nothing with Trump. If you like him, that means you like everything about him. I don't know anyone I think of like that. All of my friends have annoying habits. If it a scenario in which they want to try to change my mind or cannot love me for who I am, then I guess not.

He may not but he is putting in people around him who are extremely anti in all those areas. It really doesn't matter, then, whether or not he is against it or not. By de facto he is against it.

And no, I could never date a Trump supporter. To be honest I would struggle dating a socially conservative Republican in general. My sister and her boyfriend are on opposite ends and they struggle in this area as well as religion.

Luckily I have never had to cross this bridge because everyone that I have dated/married have been pretty darn socially liberal if not liberal in general.

I have close friends who are on both sides though I have no friends that are extremely right. I would have a fundamental issue with that to which I just wouldn't be able to respect them. Being anti any subset of people is a hard stop for me. I associate enough with them in a professional setting. That is more than I can stomach for the day.

I did a quick review and we'll end this thread on a positive note accepting that it departed markedly from the premise of making a romantic relationship decision, in part or in total, based on who a person voted for in the recent election, as outlined here:

So now that the elections are over, do you see who someone you're involved with or potentially involved with's political affiliation and/or how he/she voted, an issue for you?

Thanks for your input and feel free to continue political discussion in our political forum.
