It seems the less emotional intimacy there is in a relationship the easier it is to cope. Or am I confusing attachment with intimacy? I feel like we lacked emotional intimacy in our relationship. She rarely shared her feelings openly and so I felt that I couldn't share mine as openly as I wanted to. But I'm still grieving the relationship.

Does anyone have any experiences they would like to share?

I would think that the more intimacy and/or attachment, the harder it is to cope. The grief and loss feels stronger if you have had a strong connection severed. Was the breakup recent?

Definitely true. If you were only ever casually close to someone, it's generally not too tough (sometimes even easy) to move on. But when those deep, soul-level connections are severed ....it's really bad.

The more connected you are, the more difficult to detached.
