can sexting (without pictures) still get you in trouble?

I have a friend at work who I know has been dating this girl for a very long time and they ended up as exes. I know the girls number and he showed me sexting text messages from her dating back from way back 2013. From what I saw, it's like they do it every other day (the sexting)... I don't know about the actual sex part.

I told him hey isn't that kind of degrading for the woman? And he told me its okay because he showed it from people he can trust. I didn't question too much as this guy is kind of hot headed and further more might irritate him.

What are your thoughts in this? Is this like secretly shaming one person? Is this guy gonna get in trouble if word gets spread when he finally tells a person who is not trustworthy on secrets?

Without pictures? It'd be hard for him to get in "legal" trouble. There's a few laws, depending on states involved, that might get him in a minor bit of trouble, but nothing major.

Now, on a personal level, male or female, any conversation I deemed to be intimate, if it was shared without permission; would be an instant out for me.

On the other hand, I generally would rather meet in person or via camera, so the chances of that happening to me are low to begin with.

It's no different than talking to friends about your actual sex life. #lockerroomtalk

Yes. It's out there for anyone who wants to expose it, and more and more people seem able to do that. Why waste your sexy time poking your thumbs at your smartphone. Go have a date and have sex. Phone records can be subpoenaed during divorces or other lawsuits, and potential employers may ask you to sign away your privacy rights and do some investigating before hiring.

Unless they gave the text to someone else to their own phone, it would be no different than someone verbally telling you "she told me this and then told me that". no proof and it would be hearsay......

well the thing is, he said almost all of his friends in the workplace (including me) already seen the text messages. I also forgot to mention he also let me see their facebook chats through facebook as well. lol

she still hasn't talked to him but boy I wonder how things are going to turn out especially that she has a new jealous boyfriend also inside the workplace.

He sounds like a total idiot and I don't think dealing with total idiots is a good idea.

Why would he think friends and family want to read his jerk off texts anyway? Something's wrong with him.

This guy is a tool. I feel bad for the woman since that's a huge breach of trust.

Just curious. Why is she dating one guy at your work and sexting another one? Did I read that correctly?

Which law(s) do you think he has broken, exactly?

Try the Law of Not Being a Moron.

woah. been a long time... so um... this got into a really crazy thing happening. The girl's reputation kinda ended up really bad. I mean it got to the point where the new BF and the old BF got into a fistfight. Just because of this whole copy paste with his sexting messages.

Also they were not sexting anymore when they were not in a relationship anymore with her ex. He's been doing this for revenge... how they ended up badly with her ex I have no idea.

Any reason why you didn't call him out at first for sharing intimate details and potentially ruining someone's reputation?

If you posted here asking if he could get in legal trouble, it's because, deep down, you must have felt like it was wrong, no?

I did call him out. And then he gave me a reason that what he's doing was kinda safe. So I "kinda" thought it was safe but yes deep down I know something was wrong.
