lvgrly Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 A man can sleep with 15 women, and thats cool or expected. A woman can sleep with 15 men, and shes a whore.. I am not saying that is correct, I am just saying what has been heard. How do you feel about Double Standards? Do you use them??
JS17 Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 a lot of people feel that way, a lot of people don't. age is also a factor. if you're 16 years old and you've slept with 15 people, that's probably a lot. if you're 26, it's probably not.
Rosalind Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Yep, those double standards are still alive and flourishing in today's world. What to do? unfortunately I don't have the answer......
laRubiaBonita Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Heck...... i even have double standards for myself!
Prim&proper Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Yes, the double standards are completely absurd. Not much you can do about it, I guess. Some men actually are proud to be considered a man whore.
Nomad Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I'm a guy, and I don't hold to double standards, though I'm probably different from the average guy. I understand that all people, men & women, are sexual creatures and want to get laid. It's part of being human. We get it into our heads from moralists & religious kooks that sex is dirty or wrong, or is for marriage only. I see nothing wrong with sex for fun, which is what it's supposed to be. If a girl is clean & not currently sleeping with anybody else, I don't really care how many partners she's had.
TUDOR Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 We all have a past, some more so than others. My only standard is that your past stays in the past so long as you are with me. I once dated a girl and one day she got out a list with names on it and proceeding to write my name down. It was mostly men and some women. So I asked what that was for and she said she had always kept track of anyone she ever slept with. I was number 56 on the list. Did that bother me, a little, did it change anything about her or our relationship at the time no. She was 31 and that number doesn't seem to out of control considering she had never been married. It is only a big deal if you make it a big deal.

Cecelius Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 There are tons of double standards. Girls can be nice and accomodating and easy to get along with. Boys who do this are doormats and nice guys who get no play, and girls dump them. Behavior permitted to the one sex is discouraged in the other. That's a double standard. Simple Economics. People value something that appeals to some sense of rarity. The more a dude's pimped his corny flowers and poetry, his heart of hearts, it seems less legitimate, and thus less attractive. Girls around the block are basically the same. Supply and Demand. Men are purchasers in the love arena as women are. if they can seek something rarer -- if they care enough about it -- they will. Women who meet that profile will have something going for them. Just like some women look for tall guys, rich guys, whatever. If it exists, it will be valued. Real life Experience. In mens' experience, women encourage men to be sexually aggresssive by being comparatively passive. In men's experience, women prefer sexually dominant EXPERIENCED men -- every man/boy/guy has lost a girl to a man who was perceived as sexually more experienced. Mental Illness. In many men's experience, a woman with a HUGE body count for her age bespeaks low self esteem, weak ego, weak character. Value. In many men's experience, a woman with a HUGE body count for her age bespeaks low self esteem, weak ego and weak character*, all of which are less than attractive. The less attractive they are, the more attractive others appear. *Sure, there's a Sex in the City Samantha out there, but these boards are full of girl confessions about hooking up/cheating looking to become complete or to get attention or to be validated. Those are character flaws. DISCLAIMER: this is not in support of the goof ball boys who post here about being sad that their g/f isn't a virgin. Each person picks individually what works for him, and what does and doesn't bother him.
orta Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Double standards exist, and we all have to just "get used" to them; they are not going away. Pointing out double standards and complaining about them has never seemed to solve anything.
westernxer Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Guys don't care if a woman's a whore... chicks are the ones who get off on this stuff.
arcadia Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Originally posted by westernxer Guys don't care if a woman's a whore... chicks are the ones who get off on this stuff. nah not true. just have a look around this forum. i have read several threads about a man who is horrified to learn of his girlfriend's sexual past and in some cases they say they can't continue to go out with them because they wrongly thought she was pure! Sad, but true.

Sad, but true. You're referring to guys who fall for women who weren't honest from the get-go. I'm referring to guys in general. Don't confuse the two. The former had feelings involved, the latter just wanna f*ck. The exception is religious dudes worried about their reputation, and Jimmy Swaggart, who should've known better... twice. By the way, a girl started this thread. What does that tell you? I've never seen a guy start a thread about this, unless they're complaining about their exes.

Sad, but true. actually ARCADIA....i love "whores". they are a lot of fun and love sex and are ready to go anytime. the world needs more female whores. women who are not afraid of their sexuality and who don't think that sex is "dirty" or just to procreate. most of the women I've run into in real life are way too conservative sexaully. but a few are not.

arcadia Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 oh i am sure there are exeptions to everything. however, if i am getting what you are saying, doesn't it suck that a guy is fine just sleeping with a girl who's been around the block, but when there's feelings involved, the guy would prefer someone more chaste? is that really fair? it's that whole, "sleep with a whore, marry a virgin" thing that i keep hearing about. i am just playing the devil's advocate, really. i couldnt care less one way or the other. my partner's sexual past means nothing to me and i have only dated one that cared anything about mine.
TUDOR Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Nothing wrong with a woman already knowing a few tricks and how to please her man. That comes from experience and having a past in the bedroom. I appreciate a woman that knows what she is doing and glad some guy along her past showed her how so that I can enjoy her more now! Kind of like dating the remedial math girl verses the Honors Math girl.....one knows a hell of a lot more ways to manipulate those numbers!! I do think the whore label comes more from women though BUT the irony of it is that the men that agree with the women that call them that are just agreeing to get on their good side so they can get them into bed! Vicious cycle!
scratch Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Originally posted by arcadia I couldnt care less one way or the other. my partner's sexual past means nothing to me and i have only dated one that cared anything about mine. There probably is something to this double standard. In my experience, women who have had more than 3 or so partners per year since they became sexually active are more likely than women with, say, 0.5-1 per year to have emotional issues and bring baggage into a relationship. Do understand, I am in no way claiming that these women have baggage and issues because they have had many partners. I am simply saying that most men notice an empirical correlation between women with a high number and women with whom they have difficulty dealing. For the record, women over 22 or 23 who are virgins or extremely inexperienced are often a mess as well. The women who have been the easiest to get along with have tended to be at about one per year.

BrotherAaron Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 The double standard comes as a result of the different percieved roles that men and women have in regards to sex. Men are praised for having many partners because there are so many guys (many of the good, or at least decent looking) sitting around lamenting that they can't get a girl to notice them. I have, however, never met an attractive girl who could honestly complain that she has a hard time getting guys to f*** her. The resulting perceptions are a) that a guy who sleeps with a lot of girls has something valuable to offer (humor, money, etc), or he'd be unsuccessful b) a girl who sleeps with a lot of guys is simply bad at saying no, or has low standards in men
alphamale Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Originally posted by BrotherAaron a) that a guy who sleeps with a lot of girls has something valuable to offer (humor, money, etc), or he'd be unsuccessful you forgot looks....but yes, you are essentially correct BROTHER AARON. See....the only dudes who really can bag a lot of women must have something going for them cause women generally don't have sex with ugly dudes who have no personality and no money. Unless, of course, she's a hooker.
