hiimgerman Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Hi guys. This hasn't happened to me before so I think I'll need some help. I met this girl who sat next to me on a flight. We had a little chat after we landed and even though it was only a brief encounter I felt my heart had been stolen. She's a newly qualified nurse who will be starting her first nursing job in London in a couple of months. Unfortunately I did not ask to exchange details which I now regret deeply. My question is: does anyone know how to find her again? I was thinking maybe I could put up an advert on one of the local newspapers and hopefully word will reach her but I'm not sure how she might react to this. Any ideas are welcome. Cheers guys!
robert-zell Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Try social networking. Look on the region or place of work. Maybe something will turn out. Good luck to you!
Shanex Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Google triangulation works pretty fine, IE: Her profession, age and locate could give you a clue... But I don't guarantee 100% you'll succeed especially if she lives in a very populated area. Good luck.
Art_Critic Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 You don't.. you strike it up to life and move on.. don't put an ad in a newspaper, it isn't like she will see it and it will just reinforce the wrong feeling inside you. She might have a BF or Husband, since you don't know anything about her you just drop it and ask out the next girl you chat up with and have a connection with.
Ami1uwant Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Social media, video on YouTube , Craigslist, stalking the hospitals... Also look at radio snd tv media coverage of your story.
ThisOverThat Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 You won't ever see that woman again. Turn the page. Now you know to exchange contact information with females who you are attracted to during the very first interaction (especially those that you don't work or go to school with and may never see again by chance). It's easier if you don't wait until the end of the interaction too.
katiegrl Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 OP did you even get her name? Even a first name is something. If not, no way you could find her. Not that I know of anyway, and I work in law, we know ALL the tricks (um, have the resources).
jen1447 Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 This was an international flight? If so, did it originate in the US or elsewhere? Your only practical option is to hire a PI who'd have access to 'brokers' who could use connections or pretext the airline to see who was in seat x on flight y on date z. Otherwise you're left playing the social media/Google game and that'll 99.9% go nowhere fast and forever.

Are you a former PI or a frequent employer of their services for whatever reason(s)?

Would the airline be able to pass on my message to her or point me in the right direction?
lana-banana Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) Yea it was an international flight from Auckland to Singapore. Would the airline be able to pass on my message to her or point me in the right direction? Absolutely not. That's a massive privacy violation and airlines are serious about protecting travel records. The same goes to providing information about passengers on flights. This data is only released during an emergency like a crash or in response to police warrants. Looking into that information, even indirectly, is a good way to get reported to the feds as a security threat. No PI who wanted to keep his license would go after that. From a strictly technical perspective, your best bet would be to scour social media, particularly if she has an unusual first name. You might find her on Facebook talking about the flight. Or maybe she's gushing about her new nursing program in London. Geotagged posts are your friend. If you knew more about the hospital and program she was attending, you could find the program websites and see if her name appears on a list of incoming students, etc. Now from a realistic perspective, a local newspaper or Craigslist is the only way to go. You could probably find her online in five or six hours, but the amount of legwork would be so intense that she'd be incredibly creeped out. You're a complete stranger and that level of investigation is not appropriate. A 'missed connections' advert probably won't get a response, but it's at least public and straightforward. Online targeting is not. tl; dr Don't do anything you'd be embarrassed to tell her. Actually, that's good advice for relationships in general. Edited September 19, 2016 by lana-banana
jen1447 Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Yea I've got her first name. Is that enough? Not unless it's extremely unusual or you've got another piece of info or two to narrow it with. Trying to find "Jane" with nothing else to go on is a lost cause before it starts. Yea it was an international flight from Auckland to Singapore. Would the airline be able to pass on my message to her or point me in the right direction? I doubt they'd do that, altho the more likely route would be passing on a message. (They'd never "point you in the right direction.") But really they'd almost certainly say they sympathize but they're not in the business of facilitating social connections.
