xxoo Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Any suggestions, anyone, on how to politely express my dislike for flip flops, as a general concept, in the same way I can express my dislike for a particular activity or food item, without them changing my meaning to "you are not allowed to wear flip flops"? Are you talking about your online dating profile? By all means, put in bold and italics how much you hate flip flops. It may help you find someone who feels he same If you are talking about being on a date, and telling a woman who is wearing flip flops that you hate flip flops, at least have the tact to work that into conversation. Just don't expect her to change either her shoes or her preferences. As for me, you can pry my Rainbows out of my cold, dead hands.
VeveCakes Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Something else to consider, I am just recovering from a broken leg and surgery. I can't wear heels at all because of my leg and it was way too hot all summer for shoes. So, I wear nice flip flops. I wouldn't discount these women so quickly.
smackie9 Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Make it a deal breaker and don't date women who wear them on dates then....that's like asking why women wear yoga pants. We like them. Here in Vancouver/ lower main land that's all you really see.....It's a casual kinda town. 1
rester Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I find this hatred of flip-flops a bit ridiculous but putting myself in the OP's shoes for a moment, if a woman showed up for a date wearing something offensive to me, I would try to get through the date as quickly as possible and politely turn down any mention of another date. I may even try to end the date early. I don't think I would tell her it's because of her choice of clothing because I understand that I'm not going to change the way she dresses and it's unnecessarily insulting. Sometimes, though, for both our own benefit and the benefit of the people around us, it's worth recognizing when our own opinions might be out of the norm and to not judge everyone else too harshly for not sharing that opinion. 2

It sounds as though you are off the crutches. I'm happy to hear if you are. Could we expand on a few things? That's why I like this post so much. Yes, not wearing heels comes with the territory of your unfortunate mishap, and not wanting to wear shoes makes sense, in summer, even without the broken leg. The first thing I noticed is that you offered heels and shoes as, seemingly, the only possible alternatives to flip flops. Sandals are about the only thing that makes sense in your situation, and I get the idea of wanting a sandal that doesn't have to be fastened, for the ease of sliding your foot in and out when you need to, which leads to my second question: why does the sandal have to be flip flops, and cannot be any other style of flat slide sandal, like I posted in my original post, as a few examples of many? I know you can't speak for everyone, but could you speak for you on this one? What you described is exactly my curiosity.
preraph Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 No class whatsoever. Lazy and can't be bothered. Zero income. Never get a decent job.
mortensorchid Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Yes it does depend on what kind of shoe you are talking about. If you are talking about the Jimmy Choos - the leather bound sandals with jewels on them - that is considered classy. If you are talking about the cheap rubber ones one can buy for a few bucks at Wal-Mart, that's not classy looking. Personally I do not wear them, I wear slides because I can't stand that thong thing between the big and index toe. They still fall under "flip flop" as a type of shoe, but they are not a traditional flip flop. As to why? Some find them comfortable, some want to show off their nice feet, some want a break from the oppressive heat. And some say this is what they can afford as opposed to a nicer kind of shoe. I find that last one to be nonsense. I've seen people spend a lot on clothes and jewelry and cell phones and shoes but fall short in one area that they choose to be cheap on. Different strokes for different folks, of course, but it's what it is.
ManyDissapoint Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I wear flip flops 5 months out of the year. Can't hear the sound of ppl judging me over the flip flopping.
