That there IS an exception where you can be friends with women, but only under a certain condition. "Never be friends with a woman you'd like to date, but it's okay to be friends with someone you don't want to date." Basically, if you're attracted to them, don't be friends with them, if you're not attracted then by all means be their friend. the funny thing is that this kind of answers my original question...so according to this a man can be friends with a woman even if he is not attracted to her physically...although, as you point out and you are right, my original question was regarding doing this through online dating and although it probably is not always possible it also does not sound like it is totally out of the ordinary either...and as Michelle pointed out..it does take maturity on both ends to carry on a non romantic relationship with the oppotisite sex whether there is a physical attraction or not.
