No...they are a mix of mongoloid and negroid. Not unlike people from tibet or nepal who are a mix of caucasoid and mongoloid.

Science has moved on since you left school, AM. Population geneticists are now talking in terms of 'clades' and 'lineages'.

Since 1932, college textbooks introducing physical anthropology have increasingly come to reject race as a valid concept: from 1932 to 1976, only seven out of thirty-two rejected race; from 1975 to 1984, thirteen out of thirty-three rejected race; from 1985 to 1993, thirteen out of nineteen rejected race.

Nevertheless, the belief that human races exist remains almost universal amongst lay audiences and, like any widely held belief, is significant regardless of its scientific validity. Moreover, some social and natural scientists argue that new studies in molecular genetics support a nomenclature strongly reminiscent of traditional racial and ethnic terminology.

And so the debate continues. Like anything in science, that which we thought we knew 20 years ago :p has likely changed quite a bit since last we visited the topic.

As for the OP's question, realize that what he said about you being a 'white girl' was probably just for the sake of conversation and was meant in good humour. I've done a similar thing before with some girls I knew really well who happened to be of different race/colour than me, and it was all in good fun.

It's funny, where I'm from (Canada) race isn't really an issue and no one seems to care either way - which is the way it should be.

alpha,

The 4 classifications of race are from a geographical orgin.

and they are all subspecies as well

They are :

1. Caucasoid people in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent

2. Mongoloid people in eastern and South-East Asia, the Pacific and the Americas

3. Negroid people in Africa, south of the Sahara

4. Australoid people in Australia and Melanesia

The Australoid people are not a mix.. The skeletal and melatonin are not from the mongoloid or negroid race.

I will say that it is a debated topic.. Just like on LS

I think maybe a few people missed what I was saying with my post. I was not offended when he called me a "white girl". I was trying to point out, and figure out the difference between what Canadian and American culture think of races. I was actually shocked when he said it, because I have never been referred to in this way, or thought of him in such a way.

Personally, I think the term race makes no sence to me. Not at this point in time anyway. What determines race? Colour? Origin? All I am saying is that it can't really be either of these. I am a "white" Canadian. With ancestors of all types of "races" or "ethnic" groups. (whatever term you want to use) One of which, is Spanish. I also have native Indian grandparents. However, I appear to be European. Which makes me Caucasian. My aunts, uncles, cousins etc. are darker skinned then me. But they are considered caucasian as well.

How could you possibly put people into one "race" mixed with all types of people. In Canada we do not use the term "Latino" and I believe this is the same for Europe. (correct me if I am wrong) I just don't think people in this time period can be classified into "races". I think most people nowadays are mixed somehow. I liked how someone described that we should be classified as "individuals" because that makes most sense to me.

And Star Gazer, where abouts in Canada have you been? Do you live here? Canada is a VERY diverse and multicultural country. I would say much more diverse than the United States actually.

Blue16, I totally agree with you, that was kinda my point as well. I never thought of it, and I found it strange that he did. I didnt understand why it was actually mentioned more than once with him. Not just in joking times either.

Amen. some of you are WAY too serious about this -oid thing. We're all HUMAN, isn't that all that really matters??

caucasoid, negroid, this talk has become humanoid.

I do understand your confusion, it's happened to me as i am racially asian but culturally latina. (How the hell do you fill out those forms under "ethnicity"?)

It seems your boyfriend may be racially white but culturally latino, and being Hispanic has nothing to do with skin color. Trust me.
