My girlfriend and I have been dating for 2 years. I have been struggling with depression for a few years now, and I have been going to therapy for about a year for it. I believe my depression is beginning to take a toll on our sex life. In recent months, I've had a lack of interest in sex and I believe it is due to my depression. Today, she was very irritated with me because I did not feel like being sexual. I've refused sex many times throughout the last few months and she has clearly expressed to me that it is making her irritated and angry with me. I do not want to lose her over something like this.

Side note: She does kind of have a high sex drive in general.

Hi Maddenm, I'm glad you're taking this issue seriously - too many people ignore the needs of their partners.

Question to you: How are you managing your depression? Are you taking meds? If so, which ones? Is your doctor aware of your lost sex drive?

How high, as in how often does she want sex...

Also, has she always had a higher sex drive than you, or is your lack of drive recent?

Did you have the same drive with other partners?

She asks for sex on a daily basis almost. Since we've been dating, I think her sex drive has always been a little higher than mine, but I don't know if that's always been linked to my depression. As far as other partners went, I haven't had any other serious partners.

I am not currently on meds, just going to therapy. I have briefly mentioned my lack of desire for sex with my therapist but not in depth.

What do you think is the source of the depression? You were fine earlier in the relationship. What has happened since then to put you in this state?
