tomtheman1234 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I am meeting up tonight with this woman I met on an Internet dating site. I live in Cornwall in the UK and people down here don't dress up smart. We are meeting in a pub. I will be going casual not smart. I just wonder if I can get away with clean jeans a newish t shirt and newish plimsolls? I have a smart sleeveless jumper I could also wear maybe. I feel that I should not wear shorts tonight. Any info would be good.
Gaeta Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Well, probably people in UK would be best to answer this but here is an answer from a French-Canadian lady. Evening date = NO t-shirt. Actually no t-shirt for a first meet. I am sure you have a nice polo-shirt or a nice casual shirt in your closet. 1
PegNosePete Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 T shirt is fine for a pub meet especially if you're under 30 and/or it's hot. Yeah, I would avoid shorts though.
HumanMachine Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Bin the sleeveless jumpers mate they're awful Fitted black t shirt Decent pair of jeans Smart trainers/desert boots Showered, hair sorted and a splash of aftershave Good luck
Toodaloo Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Depends on your physique but short sleeved shirt with pair of smartish jeans. Most important is make sure you are clean!!! I know that sounds daft but... There are some lovely pastel check short sleeved shirts about at the moment that look fantastic on guys. But thats my personal opinion... Sorry not really a fasionista but I will say this. She agreed to go on a date with you so don't worry too much and just concentrate on conversation etc. A great date with a guy is not so much what he is wearing but how he makes you feel. So remember your manners etc. Good luck!
No_Go Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Jeans is fine, maybe not t-shirt but polo-shirt or short-sleeved casual shirt. Shorts/t-shirts are for a hike-date some other time. 1
jen1447 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I don't know what it's like in Cornwall but for me generally, shorts would make a worse first impression than a t-shirt. I could deal w a casual meetup where a guy was wearing a nice fitted t-shirt and pants but if he busts out the cargo shorts like he just got out of bed or he's about to sand the boat hull, no.
