Have you ever encountered a situation where you're pretty sure someone is fabricating a story about a relationship or even inventing a lover who doesn't exist?

On another forum a woman who says she's in her 50s, lives in Vancover BC, and that she is a professional therapist has been communicating with another middle aged member in Pennsylvania who is supposedly a martial arts instructor on disability. A few months ago she started a thread announcing they have a relationship. He chipped the discussion but didn't say a lot. She said they email and talk on the phone but havent met in person due to financial issues.

Well, last week she started a thread saying the guy surprised her by showing up at her door earyl one morning with 2 dozen roses, Belgian chocolates, champagne, and her favorite perfume. She said she answered the door barefoot in a black silk sleepshirt and her red curls were tousled. He told her he realized she's the love of her life and proposed marriage, but she said her head is spinning and she doesn't know what to do. There were other details about walks in the moonlight and dancing in the rain. The guy hasn't said anything.

I think she's making the story up and just wants attention. Some people are congratulating the happy couple. But.........a therapist makes good money and a disabled martial arts instructor....? Huh? He's been saying he doesn't drive, lives with a roommate, walks to convenience store for groceries, yet he came up with air fare, money for roses, perfume, and Belgian chocolates. Really?:confused:

The description alone sounds like some amateur romance novelist writing out a plot.

I mean...her red curls were tousled? Who actually describes themselves that way?

It sounds fabricated, for many reasons. Any particular reason why you're trying to get to the bottom of it?

Yes, it sounds like a cheap romance novel.
