spiderowl Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Hi, I would really appreciate your thoughts on this as I don't know whether I'm misunderstanding or what. I have started using a social chat site recently, because I get bored in the evenings and it would be nice to have some 'company', if only online. I got fed up of dating sites because the guys who were contacting me were not of interest for the most part and then, when they were, I was turned off by sleazy attitudes and being approached for something casual when I've made it clear on my profile I'm not interested in that. I don't like the flirting thing: it seems so false to me. I'd just like to chat normally with people and not get involved in flirting. If something came of this and I ended up getting to know and eventually meet a wonderful guy, then that would be a bonus, but I'd want to get to know him as a friend first and I don't see romance as likely now. Since I started chatting, I have found a pattern. Guys (some of whom are married) want to chat and then shortly after starting ask about appearance. At some point, they start asking about a picture. I tell them I'm only there to chat but they persist. Why are they pressuring for a picture after I've told them this? Also, why would a married guy (who I presume just wishes to chat occasionally) ask for a picture and offer to send me his? Why does he need a picture to chat to someone? Why would I need his picture? Amarried guy recently got quite persistent about this and has suggested several times he send his pic. I don't see the point. He's married. I'm only chatting with him. I don't want to engage in anything more. He suggested talking on the phone - is this what people normally do? He justified this as making a new friend. I'm not so sure. I don't think I'm naive. The way these guys are behaving is as if they are looking to date. That's up to them, but once I've told them I'm only there to chat, why persist? Do people usually swap pictures on social chat sites? Is it usual for a married guy to do this? Maybe I'm out of touch or something but I really don't get the rules of this. jen1447 Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I think they just want some of that spidey-sauce hon. Srsly that's what ppl do ....get them online at 11:00 p.m. while the spouse is in bed and they generally want to misbehave, not talk about politics or w/e. I know it kinda sucks but it shouldn't be too surprising. 1

When people get tired of regular dating or struggle to get a date, there are far easier and drama free options.. assuming you're single. Those engaged and married who reach out to escorts are in greater troubles. 1

CarrieT Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Or to make sure they are not being catfished and talking to another married guy!

Author spiderowl Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 Or to make sure they are not being catfished and talking to another married guy! I hadn't thought of that. Somehow I doubt that's it but it might be a factor for some.
