Can Prozac help me get through my breakup?

It's been 3 months and I'm desperately trying everything to get over this obsession. I feel stupid for having feelings for someone who could so casually discard me.

I can see some progress but I need to get over him like asap. It's effecting my work, I'm distracted, and I think of him when I'm driving, when I wake, Before I go to bed, in the shower. I feel like I'm obsessed with someone who has treated me awfully, and then dumped me. So I came to the conclusion that there must be something wrong with me. I'm thinking about asking my doctor for Prozac I've taken it before when I was depressed and it helped me get through my depression. Has anybody tried this and has it helped deadened these obsessive thoughts? Any comments or input is appreciated.

Hi Sunnymae, sure Prozac might help you if you have obsessive compulsion or depressive disorder. Where you diagnosed with depression or OCD? And if you have used it with success in the past.

Three months is not a long time to get over someone, especially if your relationship was toxic or if you were abused. Your brain is trying to recover from the trauma and pain you experienced. You say you "need to get over this ASAP" and that is understandable you feel that way because we all want to get over painful experiences as quickly as possible but you have to stop resisting how you feel and just go with it.

You said you can see some progress, which means you are getting over things on your own so why not focus on that to see if you can enjoy more progress without going back on the medication?

Why did you stop taking Prozac before?
