MelodyRye Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 She'll be turning 7 on Aug. 18 and is pretty much a tomboy. For instance, she's seen climbing a tree or playing tug-of war and wrestling with the boys. On her last b-day, I gave her a barbie doll and a big make-up case (I didn't know) and was informed later on that her parents had to give it to another relative that's also her same age. She wouldn't play with the doll nor use the case.
anika99 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I usually just ask the kid or the parents what the kid is into. Nobody here can say with certainty what your cousin likes but her parents could. 3
ASG Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I mean... my family still ask my mom what I'd want. Why don't you do the same??? Best way!

preraph Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I was a tomboy too and didn't like babydolls, though later I liked Barbie. Gifts I liked were a bike, a helicopter (or glider), and one thing I really wanted and finally got was this little personal medicine cabinet that was only big enough to hold my toothbrush and one other thing. I just loved the idea that it was only big enough for just my stuff. So you might think about getting her a pretty wooden box to put her personal things in or something like that. Most kids like that, I think, anything to keep something a little private. I also loved horse figurines and other animal figurines. And I recently bought two kids raw rocks (apophylite and a small hollow geode) from a rock store that has crystals and stuff and they both really liked them, the teen and the younger girl. She had picked one of mine up last trip over (I have a rock collection) and wanted it. You can get them rocks or fossils or arrowheads and it may start a whole new field of interest or hobby for them that they take into adulthood.
RecentChange Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I was a Tom boy too Favorite toys - gliders and other fun airplane stuff made of foam / wood. Rockets that were propelled with water or baking soda etc. "Science kits" microscope and bugs and other bugs etc on slides to look at. 1

Search for Geode Explorer Science Kit – Crack Open 7 Amazing Rocks and Find Crystals! on amazon, they have more types of geodes in the bigger kits, we have given these kits many many times to kids when our son goes to birthday parties 1

I bought geode eggs back in the 90s and never did get them open. You really need a vice and a powerful rock saw.Maybe they have them precracked or something for kids though. when I was young we had a "river rock" gravel road that I used to spend a lot of time picking through and using a hammer on.
zuzuspetals Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 This is a tough one. Does your niece have a couple of brothers? It’s common for girls with brothers to gravitate towards the “playing in the dirt” types of things that brothers do. But buying her a dirt-clod launcher or another typical boyish toy for her birthday might seem odd to her too. If you’re reasonably close by, it might be cool to give her the gift of your time….say, one or two hours each week for the next three months together doing girl stuff – maybe attend a fashion show, or shop for shoes, get facials or manicures etc. I still remember just about every outing I spent with my Uncles and Aunts. They’re priceless. Once I was given my own adult-size Bible and some tips on how to go about studying. That was a good one. It made me feel grown up. Great memories!

To this day, while I dress fairly feminine etc, I have more guys friends, more common intests etc. I would have been MISERABLE if someone tried to make me go to a fashion show or manicures (hello, I play outside and hard, nails would be toast in a day). I remember joining girl scouts, thought woo hoo! Going to learn about camping and wilderness skills. Should have seen the dismay on my face when the first meeting included a fashion show. I wanted to quit that moment and was sad I couldn't join the boy scouts, who were off doing fun, useful things. This would be like saying there is a boy that enjoys art or dancing - so why don't you take him to football practice, you know, because he is a boy, and sports are for boys. There is nothing inherit about nail polish, shoes and make up about being a girl. These are social constructs. It's fine if a girl is drawn to these things, but please never put these things on to a girl, or expect her to enjoy them just because she does not have a penis. 1
standtall Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Give her sports equipment...baseball, hockey..etc.
