Ex trying to be friends? Or reaching out?

My ex and I dated briefly about 6 months ago. It was a short relationship, but really meant a lot to me. He left me because he didn't feel we were "where we should be" at four months.

 

Over the last 6 months I have been working on myself and trying to date. Still haven't found anyone. My ex texted last week (first contact in over two months) asking how I am and how my family is. Then he asked for my best friend's husband's number because he wanted to go by their store for business. I replied politely (but nothing more). He continued to ask about my family (my mom is sick) and then said he'd pray for her.

 

Well, he stopped by my friends store that afternoon and talked to them and told them how great it was to see them, but never bought anything. The next day, I see on FB that he has a new girlfriend....

 

My heart hurts because any communication from him is hard for me. Why does he think it's ok to reach out to me and my best friends when he has a new girlfriend? I think he wants to be friends, but we don't really talk so I just don't get it.

I don't think behavior like that is really what he's reaching for. Maybe he's just curious what you have been up to and nothing more. If it's still hars for you, then I don't advise you continue talking to him. Block him and stop responding.

Because to him, it's no big deal. And you responded politely and gave him your best friend's husband's contact information, so why would he think otherwise?

 

If communicating with him hurts your heart, you should block him on everything. It's not worth feeling bad yourself just so you can feign politeness to an ex.
