Why is it that some guys are not "phone guys" that bothers me. I can have a great conv in person with him and then on the phone it is so different? He IS on the phone all day at work and says by the end of the day, he wants to throw it out the window, but still. I guess i cannot relate since Ilove the phone! Is this a common thing for guys?

To my girl, to my mom, to my brother, to my dad, to my husband. I'm good for five minutes then that's it, I'm ready to end the call.

I agree the phone sucks. It's most likely nothing personal

It's too difficult to talk to a voice with no face.

I hate Instant Messenger for the opposite reason.

I am a girl and spend ALL day on the phone. By the time I get home, the phone is the last thing I want to touch. Even when speaking with my man - I keep it short and to the point.

Guess it's not just a guy thing anymore.

i am on the phone at work all day.............so on my time either you come o see me, or i go to see you. I only like phone calls when i have been drinking, and i am in my "chatty stage", and apparently i am annoying to close family members and friends who are non-chatty .

I hate the phone... if I could i'd text message ALL the time.. i LOVE text messages. I love their savability. I love messing with my phone, I love figuring out what means what on texts... but i hate phone calls. I pace when i'm on the phone.. where as i am SO comfortable typing.

the people who i talk to for long periods of time are the ones who were grand fathered in before whateer date it was that i decided the phone sucks (i'm sure that was after a break up over the phone heh).

plus you're always much more witty when you have an edit button.

Yesh, So we don't have hours upon hours of time to talk to you about what you saw at the mall today, Aww, I'm so sorry. I apologize on behalf of the entire male race, please, forgive us.

lol, I know thats a little sexist, but so is your topic, so I'm just feeding you your own medicine. Some PEOPLE not male or female, dislike talking on the phone for hours.

Jesus.....

I'm a woman, and I still have about a 15-20 minute limit for phone time. I'd rather talk in person.

Exactly, thats what im talking about.

I like to make prank phone calls, and honestly I could spend hours doing that... :D

My fiance is good with the phone usually. Men are just not usually as chatty as we are. We talk to decompress, they talk to make a point.

Beth- is this the guy from before??? Or a new guy?

When your younger that's all you have to keep friendships and bf/gf, so as a kid yeah all the time on the phone.

Now who has time to sit and talk on the phone when you've got shyt todo, you have a car and anywhere now-a-days is about 10-15 minutes away get you azz over here and give me some lovin in person not over the phone.

talking extensively on the phone is a female thing. do you want to date a dude who is constantly on the phone or who is shopping all the time or has 250 pairs of shoes?

I absolutely positively hate the phone....especially the cell phone. My fiance and I both have cell phones but I try my best never to use it. In fact, what really makes her mad is that when we are together and my cell phone rings I will not pick it up most of the time. But when her cell phone rings the entire world as we know it STOPS; and the phone must be answered with no ifs, ands, or buts. That is my tiff; the cell phone is the center of universe and all that is bound by it must bow to its glory. I think it is a social need; but like all men, I think that this is a mystery best left alone. Let the women have their phones...we can have our football.

Hmm.. I had a BF who was in the USMC and when he was deployed to Japan we would talk on the phone for up to 2 hours at a time  LOL He also called me on a cell phone when he was sent to Korea for a bit.. he was in the middle of no where basically.. and called to read to me on a cell phone.. LOL that was an expensive call for him!

However we probably talked more on the phone or via IM than most people typically would because he was deployed... once he got back home we didn't talk so much on the phone.

My BF now.. I typically get either a call in the morning or a text to say Good Morning, sleep well? and have a good day... LOL then another call or text at lunch time.. checkin to see how the day is going... another one after he gets off work.. and if we're not hangin out for the night then a call to say goodnite...this mornings call was to say Good morning AND tell me his Dog ate a pair of my panties.. son of a  !

While I don't mind the phone and I do appreciate my BF keeping up with me or whatever... he had to add minutes to his phone plan after he met me LOL because yeah.. he still talks to me more often and longer than he does his buddies... we still don't have marathon conversations on the phone and I'm actually really glad :)

If I am dating a woman seriously she may be lucky to get two calls a week from me. And they usually don't last more than 10 or 15 minutes.

I think most guys will talk for 15 or 20 minutes and after that we get antsy and want to get off. I believe that if you need to talk more than that then you need to see them face to face. Most women like to talk hours on the phone so I think it is a gender thing...

For real?

So you think it's not typical for my BF to call/text this often?

I hate phones. I'm somewhat getting used to the idea of talking on them just because I have a lot of friends who live half way across the country and that's the only way I can talk to them other than on the computer.

Most of the time when I'm on the phone, I'm distracted by other things I should/could be doing (changing that light bulb that's out, updating my website, etc). My attention isn't really focused solely on the person I'm talking to. If it's a serious conversation, I will be, but if it's just everyday chit-chat, I want to get off the phone as quickly as possible so I can do the things I need to get done.

Plus, some of my friends have jobs where they're required to talk on the phone most of the day. They were talking about this very thing not too long ago, and each one of them said how much they hate being on the phone once they get home. They have to do it all day, so it's the last thing they want to do in their free time.
