Shining One Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I live in a condo, so the units are all close together with windows facing the street. I was putting out the trash this morning and on my way back, I saw my neighbor lying topless in bed. Her blinds were closed, but a couple of them were stuck on something on her window sill. I didn't stare, I just kept walking. I mentioned it to my girlfriend when I got back inside and she said I should have let my neighbor know. What do you guys think? Should I have said something?
losangelena Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Hrm, good question. It may not be a bad thing to mention, especially if she's unaware. She may not care either way, but I can't imagine she wouldn't appreciate it if you told her.
whichwayisup Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 No don't say anything to your neighbour, your gf should mention it to her, not you! 15
mikeylo Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Give some sense to your gf for giving you a horrible advice unless they are planning a threesome with you.
jen1447 Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 imo abide by the mantra that no trouble can come from keeping your mouth shut. 11
Mr. Lucky Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 imo abide by the mantra that no trouble can come from keeping your mouth shut. Exactly. Any sentence that ends with "I saw you topless on your bed", will in her mind start with "I was peeping in your window and..." ... Mr. Lucky 6
blackcat777 Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 My blinds fall apart on a daily basis and I am probably the community underwear-walker. I wear underwear at home because I have to - cheap and terrible blinds are mandatory in my building. I'd lean toward not saying anything... (I'm seeing if I can move up to a higher floor with more privacy. )
katiegrl Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Maybe she intentionally placed her blinds that way.... Exhibitionist comes to mind. Possible? Who knows nothing surprises me anymore. Just a thought.
basil67 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 You did the right thing not saying anything to your neighbour. She'd most likely be a) mortified and b) annoyed that you looked in her window. 1
Els Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I wouldn't say anything. I mean, I'm sure she knows her blinds are open, so if she meant them to be closed they would be closed at least 99% of the time. It's not something that she could possibly be perpetually unaware about. Either you caught her on a one-off event, or she just doesn't want to close them. Either way, it's her own house and she isn't disturbing you, so I really think it's out of place for a neighbour to say anything. 1
bubbaganoosh Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Let your girlfriend tell her If you do then you'll be labeled the neighborhood perv. Just don't stare at her when you see her out and about.
Author Shining One Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Stop looking in her windows. Problem solved.Alright. I'll make sure to never look directly ahead of me when walking back to my building from the dumpster. 1
Lady2163 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Whew. Not me. I don't live in a condo. Are you able to leave an anonymous note on her door? Or is your condo the only one in the path. I'd kind of like to know if this had been me.
xxoo Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Alright. I'll make sure to never look directly ahead of me when walking back to my building from the dumpster. You can look at the closed portion of her blinds Seriously, they were closed, just not perfectly. And it's just a body. How vigilant must she be to prevent someone seeing her topless in her own home? 1
TheArtist Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Put up a sign outside, then charge teenagers a couple of bucks to let them stand on your shoulders to look through the window. Word will spread pretty quickly so be sure to spend some of your profits on a sturdy stepladder to prevent back pain. Hope that helps. 1
TheArtist Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) OK, it posted that twice so I'll edit it to say, yeah, as above. Edited July 11, 2016 by TheArtist It posted the same thing twice. I am quite dextrous/impatient though.

I was simply curious about what others thought since my girlfriend and I disagreed on the notify/not notify topic. It seems that most people agree with not saying anything.

Author Shining One Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Did your gf think you should say something, or was it the opposite? My girlfriend said I should have let my neighbor know that her blinds were open. She said she would want to know if she was the one in that situation.
standtall Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Dang dude. I certainly wouldn't have told my wife. Enjoy and just don't stare..it's like looking at the sun...quick glances. 3
losangelena Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I still vote for say something. Either you or your gf. What is the harm? She either will fix the binds or she won't, but at least she'll have all the info. Not sure what the issue is. Because it's a potentially embarrassing topic?
jen1447 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Wouldn't you be suspicious if a neighbor came to you and said your blinds don't seem to be working well losa? (Not disparaging Shining here, it just seems like an impossible encounter to end well.) I guess I could see a narrow exception, like if he encountered her on his way back from the dumpster and just said sth like "hey, um if you look at your window there you can see what the view is from out here. None of my business, just thought you might want to know." Still always better to just keep it shut tho if there's any doubt imo. 1
losangelena Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 No, actually. I would appreciate it. A creepy neighbor would be the kind that noticed and didn't say anything. That's why sending the gf is a good option, or waiting and seeing if it happens again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They don't have to say, "hey, saw your titties," there's a tactful way to approach this.
