This past weekend I moved a few hours away from my homes state for work. The person that I have been dating for about three years agreed to do a long distance relationship until they find work in the state I am living in now. In the meantime we agreed to see each other every weekend. Long distance relationships are hard for me as I would usually like to see the person I am dating quite often. I also don't know anyone in the new state so this is still a rough transition for me.

Situation:

My s/o has a friend who he sees often who's celebrating their birthday this weekend. Their friend really wants them to attend the birthday party. It was pretty much a given that my s/o was going to visit me that weekend instead. My s/o's friend even extended the invitation to me in efforts to ensure that my s/o goes as well, but I declined as that would be a lot of back and forth.

I'm not really close with that friend as I don't think they're the greatest person but, I guess it's not really about me. My s/o expressed that he doesn't want his friend to think that his nonattendance is a sign that he doesn't care but he also wants to see me that weekend.

Should I try and be more flexible and suggest my s/o skip visiting this weekend and go to the birthday party?

In short, yes.

I think you should go to your boyfriends for the weekend and attend the party. He can come to you next weekend.
