WhirlwindGuy Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I have a really interesting story I wanted to share. Maybe I am completely being setup here, or maybe it is just some weird, serendipitous moment...either way, its interesting. I had a business meeting Friday night. I made reservations at a decent place down town. While walking from my car to the restaurant, a moderately good looking girl was walking behind me. I turned into the restaurant, and she came behind me, asking me if the place was any good. I said yes, we made small talk. I suggested some food, she told me she was new in the area. I left to meet my folks who had arrived. After dinner she was still sitting at the bar so I stopped to ask her if my suggestion was good. She loved it. We talked some more and I offered to give her my number and that maybe we could go sight seeing someday. She said, "let me give you mine" I gave her my phone and she entered her name and number. She asked me to text her so she has my number too so I did, we said good by, that's that. 30 min later I get a text back from her number saying "Hi, I don't know an XXXX from XXXX restaurant, I think you have the wrong number." I said, "we just met about 30 min ago, you were at the bar, I suggested the enchiladas!" She said, well, my name is Stephanie, but ive never been to that restaurant..." I said oh wow, ok...well sorry to bother you. She laughed at me for getting a wrong number from a girl at a bar, we joked a bit...she sent me a picture of herself. She was actually quite attractive and single...We talked more throughout the evening and now are supposed to go out on a date tonight. Am I being setup here? What are the chances I meet a Stephanie at a bar, she gives me a wrong number, it turns out to be another random Stephanie who happens to be attractive and single...and who happens to also be attracted to me?? I told her, if this works out, we will have the best "how I met you" story ever... Anyone ever had this happen before? Im still kind of blown away.
LostOnes05 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Sounds like a setup game to me. The odds of that happening are astronomical man...a Stephanie giving you a fake number to another Stephanie? I wouldn't be surprised if you come to find out they are best friends. 1

It's a game or she's has some kind of short term memory deficiency or split personality You may end up having "50 First Dates" . . . 3

I just cant see what their angle would be. What are they trying to get out of me? I totally agree, it sounds extremely odd, but I am not sure what they stand to gain.
smackie9 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 All I can say is be cautious. This could be part of a scam. If you end up in bed together after that date, hide your wallet. Oh and never let yourself get tied or hand cuffed either. Like they always say....if it's too good to be true then it is! 3
bummer Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Long con or short con. It's probably a con. Their valuables gone, like their ladies of the night - Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 | 2 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun Mobile

Now you guys got me freaked out.
smackie9 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Fake facebook, fake address.....come on, what woman, an attractive one at that, would give all her personal info to a total stanger...a person they have never met in their life. it's a total scam. 3

SwordofFlame Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 The lady who gave you this false number. Was she alone? What were her plans that evening?
smackie9 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Dude have you ever heard of those stories where an attractive woman lures a guy to a hotel or apartment only to be jumped and robbed??? 2
Maggie888 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I think its a coincidence. Stephanie is a very common name. The girl at the bar was only "moderately" attractive. She either made an error entering her own # or gave you a fake # that happened to belong to another girl named Stephanie (again very common name), or perhaps is just playing some kind of trick on you for kicks Not understanding how this is a '"scam". Anyone can steal anyones wallet really. Do you really need to elaborate set up of "lady at the bar" and switching names, and this serendipitous meeting ? lol The way to see if a FB profile is fake is by looking at the comments on photos. If there are lots of friends but no comments its suspect. However if there are legit comments by lots of different people its likely a real person
Author WhirlwindGuy Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 The woman at the restaurant was alone. She was not amazingly attractive, I almost didn't even bother asking for her number...she seemed nice though, had just moved to the city for work and was going to try and go to this art event we have every first Friday of the month. I was telling her about it, how to get there, etc. Asking her about where she was from and how she liked the city. The only thing that prompted me to even get her number was that she seemed nice enough, and we could probably be friends...I wasn't overly attracted to her. I also felt like it was good practice, as my "pick up chicks at a bar" game is way off. Regarding the misdial girl, I could see if we were going to meet for sex in some hotel room, but we're supposed to meet at a public place this evening downtown. She has sent me numerous pictures this weekend, we have text off and on. She was out with her kids all weekend for the holiday. Her public Facebook pictures all corroborate the things she has told me. She also has a blog where she has been writing about food, local hang outs, etc. for years. All the pictures match. 1

If that is in fact the case, they deserve the money...that is a lot of work. her pictures were mostly from her zumba class, which she teaches, and they had tons of comments. 1
Maggie888 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Also its very possible the girl at the bar knows the real Stephanie and was pulling a trick on her, or trying to set you guys up if they are friends. All sorts of possibilities really. If they just wanted to rob you, why do this elaborate fake identify/switcheroo nonsense. Just lure you to hotel then and there and jump you.

They don't even seem remotely like two people that would know each other. Two vastly different people from what I can tell, but who knows...that wouldn't surprise me. I will find out more in about 4 hours. Ill be sure and report back here tomorrow, if I survive the evening. 2
LoveIsMyReligion Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Interesting story, good luck don't get raped. 1
Author WhirlwindGuy Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Sorry, had a busy day yesterday and forgot to report back... Overall, a very lack luster, run of the mill date. Grossly misrepresented by her pictures, she just wasn't my type at all. Nice girl, just not for me. It wasn't some elaborate plot to destroy me financially, thank god...just a typical date I guess...
bummer Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 https://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/64950218.jpg Well, I was wrong. Did she split the bill?
Author WhirlwindGuy Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 https://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/64950218.jpg Well, I was wrong. Did she split the bill? No, I always pick it up on the first date. She offered, but I declined.
Maggie888 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Go back to the restaurant and see if you run into the original Stephanie. How were the pictures misrepresented? Were they old or just in flattering light or something?
preraph Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I would be cautious in case one or both Stephanies are hookers.
