IhavenoFREAKINclue Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 So this weekend is the big weekend. I am meeting my boyfriends parents. Well Dad and Stepmom. His father is a college science professor and his stepmom is a nurse. What the hell do we talk about? Does this sound to eager: "Hello Mr. Smith, Its so great to finally meet you" That's how I was going to open..... Then see where the conversation goes? I am so nervous. He I am, talking to this college professor and with my luck, I'll try to act smart and say something scientific and be completely wrong...I can see it now.....So Darwin's theory is ridiclous.....the human race could not have started like that...or something along those lines... Also, does anyone have anything I can talk about.

I don't know how long you and your BF have been dating? Not all that long right? I would simply say "It is so nice to meet you" I would probably only add in the word FINALLY if you've been dating your BF for quite some time... Don't be nervous.. they will you!

I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit here Girl.. You're smart and charming... just because his Dad is a college professor doesn't mean you won't measure up or even that his parents would expect you to be all clued into his subject. Things Parents like.. (Even my Parents who swear like mad crazy! LOL) 1) Watch the choice in words.. avoid using bad language 2) Dress nice, but save the "Boob shirts" LOL for your BF or going out 3) Be sincere 4) Ask them questions about themselves.. People love to talk about themselves! Ask his Dad what made him choose his profession... things of that nature 5) Don't drink You'll do great!
Opium Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 The best thing you can do is BE YOURSELF! Why try and act like someone your not. Trust me parents love to ask questions, you'll have plenty to talk about. Be polite, show your manners, and let them see you for who you are. That's the best deal!

So maybe the other "myself" will have to come out and play. I just get intimidated by dignified people. Thats all.

You shouldn't feel intimidated all they have that you don't is a degree saying theirs something, it doesn't make them better than you. Dont' pretend, if they ask you what you're into of course you're not going to say, "I smoke, chill and drink all muthaf***in day, wuz up"!! That would be a bit much don't ya think. Go in their with your head up high and think "I must be good enough for you because I'm with your son"! That's all that matter what your hunny thinks of you, his parents are just another part of his life.
