SteveE4 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 If a girlfriend needed to rent out a room to save money, and decided on a male roommate she had never met, would you be OK with this, and how would you react?
booboomane Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 How would she feel if you had a female roomate? There is your answer. And the answer would be a hell no for me. 1
basil67 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Over my years of share households, nobody has ever gotten worried about having a flatmate of the opposite sex. 1
JewelD Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 As a woman, I wouldn't want to have a male roommate I'd never met. My leasing company tried it with me and I said no. Definitely not a good idea. Not bc she's in a relationship but bc it could potentially be a dangerous or uncomfortable situation. 2

juniorrocha Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 It's better to avoid. If she's renting a room, why not find a girl instead? Unless the guy is gay, I wouldn't feel comfortable with that. Asking her the question booboomane suggested will make her understand better, I suppose.
RecentChange Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I have had many male roommates over the years. At one point I was the female with 3 male roomies. I never humped a single one of them I wouldnt have a problem with it. 3
Erik30 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 It depends on the guy, (And your girlfriend) but I wouldn't like it. Sure everything might turn out fine, but there are plenty of guys who would make a move even though she's already in a relationship. And there's also the fact that he'll get to spend more time with her than you.
Cherryz Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 If its her house and she choose to have just one male roommate then its not ok. Nothing can happen, but we not retards, we know you dont put a cat with a mouse together. Things can happen, we humans. Maybe one day they see each other unexpected in towels or naked ,feelings starts blah blah. So better prevent right away! Get a female roommate! Enough females looking for a room, so she can choose someone else.
Cherryz Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Often in topics here when someone is hesitated to have some particular roommate from the opposite sex, and go hard to have them when you say your concern, its because they have a hidden agenda and there is something more going on.
Hermus Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) This shouldn't be about the roommate's gender, since a roommate is not someone you sleep with or get romantic with. It should be about letting someone in she never met, male or female. I understand she needs the money to pay the rent, but it's normal if you rent a room in a house you share with other people to first meet to see if you can get along. The person might be a creep, dirty or have other unpleasant characteristics. If she is going to rent I would advise her to meet someone first. I have lived in shared houses myself and have seen some relationships develop. But this is really more an exception than a rule. If your girlfriend has straight boundaries you shouldn't need to worry about it being a male per se. Edited June 29, 2016 by Hermus
Emilia Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I lived in rented accommodation in various countries including the UK, on 3 continents in total, between the ages of 21 and 38 on/off, male and female. I lived in a flatshare with two guys for several years. I've never had sex with any of my flatmates. Make of that what you will.
ASG Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I've been living in shared accommodation for 8 years now. Have had many male housemates. Have not slept with (or even lusted after) a single one of them. Nor do I know anyone who has! And in London, most people I know share houses and they're mostly mixed. 1
Eternal Sunshine Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I have only ever had 1 male roommate. We hooked up 8 days in. Things went horribly wrong and I opted to move out 6 months later.
