justagirl1121 Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Girls, I have a question about shaving. I've tried different razors, and different shave creams. I must have really sensitive skin because i'm always knicking myself. Ankles, knees, mostly. I've read things about making sure you soak for a while to loosen the pores, try using salacylic acid for ingrown hairs, etc... When I shave, it doesn't seem to be a real, real close shave, and i have all these red dots, and i see my friends legs and hers look all nice and even, not all dotty. I also get little rashes sometimes, and I'm not sure what works best. I have been using a moistorizor after my bath every time i shave and it helps some, but sometimes that burns. I'd like to try waxing, and i have tried it, but it never works very well, and i just can't wait 21 days to do it effectivly (didnt work when i tried it anyway very well) because it's like 90 degrees out and i cant wear pants, etc. SO any suggestions about waht i could try, esp to get the redness and the dotty look to go away???
BurningBright Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 A friend of mine actually had a similar problem. She would always get those little red "dots" after shaving. She found it was due to the shaving cream. Try using hair conditioner instead of shaving cream. She found that the red dots never appeared again after she used the conditioner. She also had sensitive skin, and felt the red dots were due to a reaction with the shaving cream itself. The conditioner may also help in gently gliding over those "knick" prone areas. all I can suggest for avoiding knicks, is to make sure you have a pivoting head on the razor, and insure your leg is as straight as possible when accessing those spots. I personally wax and shave. I prefer waxing overall. Yes I agree, it's hell waiting the time for it to grow out in order to wax properly, but it is well worth the wait. The first time is the hardest for the hair to actually be removed through waxing, but with some practice it gets much easier (especially since the hair grows back finer, therefore is easier to remove) Good luck with everything!! I hope this helps!! ~BurningBright
LucreziaBorgia Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I have ridiculously sensitive skin, and after shaving would have razor burn no matter what 'made for shaving' product I use. I have found that using a cheap conditioning shampoo (VO5 - the big bottle for $.99) plus a really good razor made the difference. I started using the Shick Quattro for women after getting a free one in the mail, and haven't had a razor burn since - not even in the bikini area at the tops of my legs. Its a bit more expensive than regular razors, but the nick/burn-free shave is worth it. I am not one to buy into hype, but that razor really does make a difference for me. I'm not sure if its the four blades or what, but I don't notice regrowth as quickly as when I was using the double-blade razors. I expect if you look around online, you'll see a 'free sample' offer for one somewhere. They are in promotions for it heavily right now.
