hildagnome Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I told this guy how I felt about him. We've been friends for a while. He admitted he had felt more for me a year ago but when nothing happened he has not thought about me 'like that' since. He said he was not expecting me to tell him this and that he would have to 'think about it and get back to me in a couple of days'. What does this mean? I'm thinking it's a no, but he didn't know how to say it to me there and then. Perhaps there's someone else on the scene I don't know about and he has really just moved completely on. It was pretty awkward and the encounter ended pretty quickly.
Buddhist Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Let it go. It's his polite way of hoping the subject drops so he isn't confronted with it again. It's always difficult to tell someone you don't see them in that way.
Author hildagnome Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 I guess. I just don't know why people have a hard time saying no. Just go 'oh sorry I'm not interested in you like that.' It sucks.
lana-banana Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Because that's a very uncomfortable thing to say to a perfect stranger, much less to a friend. He cares about you to some extent and doesn't want to hurt your feelings. Your best bet is to avoid him for as long as you feel awkward and when you do interact with him just pretend it never happened.

Because social etiquette teaches people 'white lies' are preferable to the truth when someone could feel hurt. You will discover in life that the truth is rarely encouraged when dealing with other people. A comforting lie is what is expected.
TheBathWater Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Perhaps there's someone else on the scene I don't know about That was my gut reaction when I read the first part of your post.

I would just treat it as if he told you "No, thanks." Otherwise, do not waste time on someone so indecisive about you. Find someone head over heels.
todreaminblue Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 it doesnt have to be bad when someone says they will think about it....it can simply mean just that...be calm...let it go and see what happens naturally...some people dont do spur of the moment decisions.....deb
