One of the best tools I've found in dating are board games and card games. I've found that movies, TV shows and so on are not effective tools for dating, especially when attempting to get to know someone. When the show is on discussion can be difficult, which defeats the purpose of the Date.

Consider bringing board games into the mix. There are a ton of board games and they are cheap. They can provide entertainment and leave the door open to conversation. If you drink, games like Jenga can be extremely entertaining.

Card games such as Uno, Skippo and so on can all be fun as well. When you've reached the point in dating in which you'll be spending time at home, opt for board games!

I'm a board game nerd and love them!

Some of the best date nights I had with my last boyfriend was hanging out at one of the board game cafes.

Lots of fun!

Love this post. Absolutely. I am a huge board game nut. One of my favorite bars in DC is called The Board Room. It is in DuPont circle. It is a two story bar when you can rent their board games. They have take out menus from all the restaurants in the area and you can spend hours playing games and imbibing.

I have seen a Sorry! game go full contact after midnight though.

Though I think it's a great idea, I've yet to find or date a woman who really wants to play a game. Board, card, computer or otherwise.

Too many women tend to thing games frivolous and men that play them even moreso.

In my experience of course.

I couldn't agree more. My boyfriend is a board game fanatic, as are many of his friends. At first I thought it was a charmingly dorky quirk but I discovered, hey, these are actually really fun! We play all kinds of complicated strategy games---commanding alien armies, fighting off zombies, building civilizations, solving word puzzles, and so on. It's a surprisingly fun way to spend an evening. I like all the teamwork and it allows for kid participation for couples with families. It also teaches you a lot about other couples. The couple that works together and cleans house at a tough game is invariably a solid couple in "real life", too.

I agree with this! My boyfriend and I had one of our early dates at a board game cafe, and both agree it was a great one. We were able to laugh, have fun, see how competitive we both are (ahem, I like to win) and just generally get to know one another in a different way.

We're a few months in now and haven't been playing as many games as we did earlier. I think I'll suggest we play more!

Gimme Scrabble!!!!!

Double points for rude words!! (Soooo much flirting can go on whilst playing and who the hell cares if you lose! :D:)

Scrabble is probably my fave but I have loved board games since I was a kid.

Heck! No board games and Charades will do!

'Gaming' as in online and on a pc...I have a different view. Done some and it was fun at the time but I was in my late twenties - no contact with anyone else - it was a couple of games - Tomb Raider and Tony Hawkes.

I only know one guy who happens to be late 20's who online games, no one else I know does.

Board game cafes? We need one of those here in my neck of the woods, for sure.

Sounds fun!!

I had a ton of unexpected fun on a bowling date once.

I went to an arcade with my boyfriend last night, but the air hockey machine had no puck :(

Okay that wasn't the post I was expecting, was pleasantly surprised. I think it's a great idea actually.

After a few drinks, we'd get Pictionary out and just draw pictures for the other to guess. Much hilarity ensued.

Love board games! I'm also a Scrabble fanatic. We always play games at the parties I host. I'm also into MMORPGs but they tend to require more of a consistent time commitment than I can give lately.

When it comes to dating, I think playing games is an excellent way to get to know someone. From computer games to board games or even something physical like softball or volleyball game, they provide a nice way to interact with others.

A game of Trivial Pursuit anyone!

Absolutely! board games are amazing. We have always been big on board games in my family or double date. We spent our nights up playing Risk.

It's a great idea for dates but also a great idea for when you bring your gf or bf to your family for the first time. It breaks the ice pretty quickly.

We used to take them with us to restaurants sometimes. Chinese checkers, travel Yahtzee, mancala, uno, etc. Sometimes in a group, sometimes one-on-one.

They are definitely amazing. :) The SO and I used to play MTG (Magic: The Gathering) a lot, but it was getting difficult to keep up with the new releases all the time. Still have a few large boxes worth of old MTG cards, anyone interested in buying them? :p

We have a couple of tabletop games as well, but while those are great fun, it's firstly difficult to find one that works well for 2 people (many are best played with a group), and secondly we don't have a spare table. So we use the dining table, but that means we gotta plan it so that we can finish before we need to use the table for meals, and that ain't easy when a game takes 3-5 hours!

I get the girls to do puzzles. We started with 500 pieces, now we are on to the big ones.

Start slow, but then becomes very addictive.

I think it helps with reasoning, logic, etc...

Cards against humanity is a great game to play with a woman.

Puzzles can be another good one, you want to stay away from Video games unless the woman is a gamer. Video games can be a major red flag to some women. I know numerous women who have dated men that were addicted to video games and it lead to the end of their relationship.

Puzzles, card games, board games require a bit more interaction with one another then a video game. Even if the video game is the type in which you play against each other.

Nerf Guns can also be a lot of fun. My girl friend and I get into nerf gun wars.
