spiderowl Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Basically, deep down, he didn't like being told what he could call you. He wanted the intimacy of calling you by your nickname. You said no, so he was pissed off. To make the point and yet try to get away with it, he 'jokes' by giving you another name. He is damned if he is going to call you by the name you want. You could interpret the above however you like, but for me I'd find him too controlling. He will mess things up for you unless he can do it his way. He doesn't like being told what to do. I guess he could feel rejected because you wouldn't allow him to use a nickname, but really if so that's incredibly childish. It doesn't bode well. 2
Author mbee Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 Thanks everyone. He did text me back apologizing and saying it was a joke gone terribly wrong and he realizes that he made himself look like a jerk by going for it. He is English (I'm American) and we are both living away from our respective countries so I'm hoping this is a cultural humor thing lost in translation. He's followed up all the texts by referring to me with my proper name so he got the hint. Anyway I'm giving it one last shot by going on a small weekday date after work. Worse case, I waste a couple hours of my life.
