Claire84 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I went out for a friend's birthday which I met a guy through me friend. We were talking and got on well. I made a joke about one of the other guys looking like a celebrity. Suddenly this guy stopped talking to me and I realised the joke had not gone down well. A few weeks later my friend tried to set me up with him which this guy said he did not like me making the comment about his friend. I feel really bad as I am not a horrible person and now he has this bad first impression of me. My birthday friend did not see what the problem was as he thinks the person does look like a celebrity. I still feel bad about the situation and wonder how I can rectify it. Is it best not to joke with people when you first meet?
Author Claire84 Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Which celebrity was it? I can't really say in case this guy is on here but it was an ex darts player. I just don't understand why he got so offended.

elaine567 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Ok so the friend looking like a celebrity was not a complement. He wasn't jealous that you found the friend "hot", more like it was a joke at the friend's expense and he thought that it was a nasty comment. Is that right?

Yes, he was not jealous and he thought I was being obnoxious. Yet the person who I made the comment about I think is a lovely person and would not wish any harm on him.
RedPurpleOrange Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I'm good, me. He was good with his arrows was Jocky. 1
smackie9 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I guess lesson learned??? Ya when you meet people for the first time, you kinda have to watch what you say about others. We all have had foot in mouth disease in those moments. This guy sounds a little sensitive anyways, so maybe it was for the best. Don't sweat it. In life, you can't possibly impress everyone you meet. Yer OK kid.
smackie9 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Next time you run into the guy, just apologize. Say that you realized afterwards it was an insensitive comment and you take it back and that hope there is no ill will between you. 1
