They met on the Wednesday and got married on the Saturday... :)

I would suggest she have a "drop-dead date" that only she knows about (i.e., not an ultimatum that she tells the BF) - either her birthday or Christmas or some other anniversary that is important to both of them - that she will either be engaged or she will move on.

The hard part will be that she would have to actually stick to it. If he hasn't proposed by whatever set date she has in her head, she shouldn't ask about it, manipulate him into it, or otherwise coerce the situation towards a marriage.

She should just break up and move on. Of course he will beg, plead, cajole, etc., but who wants to establish a life-long relationship on such antics? Either he really does want to marry her - and asks her on his own accord - or he does not.

sounds like a perfect plan... in theory.

in reality, it'll be hard for KAtie's friend to just leave a RS because he didn't pop the ring by the 2nd of December.

I know what happened to me was that I got tired of waiting and then so fed up, but so fed up that I end it. All of a sudden, no explanation. I just had enough, I wanted it too badly and had really gotten sick of it. He got really scared and came with the ring, but... I dunno, I was just sick of it. It was 7 years for me and less than a year since we started talking marriage.

So my experience is that waiting and doing nothing can be lethal - and not just from his side.

I liked that book - "Why men marry some women and not others". Lots of creative techniques explaining how to approach that subject with men and how to handle the problem. They may sound a bit manipulative, but those ideas looked really good. And beats the hell outta burning the house down or kicking him out or breaking the RS off.
