Can someone explain the 'rubber band' theory... I read about it years ago, but can't remember it.

I've seen it posted here quite often... its obviously still a 'trendy' theory?

As I recall it, the theory is that men (usually men - could be women too, I suppose) fear losing their independence if they get too close to someone so when they find themselves getting too close or too attached, they pull back. Women, sensing this pullback, then try to pursue them to come back. However, rather than bringing them back, they go farther away because they are still afraid of the closeness. So in theory the women are supposed to stay put or even pull away. Then the men, fearing they are about to lose the women, approach and begin to get close again.

Damn-I think I can call my man the "rubberband man!!!!!"

If nothing else, at least I have learned so much from this relationship. Almost too much. I think I have read so many books that I can see a disaster coming a mile away.
