When you date someone (long term), break up for a few months, but end up reconciling & getting back together why would they not pick back up with telling you they love you (he did previously tell me this before we broke up)? He tells me he never stopped loving me, so I'm wondering why it would be something he wouldn't pick up with telling me again? Any insight/opinions to share about this or anyone else gone through this before? It's something I'd like to approach with him to have a better understanding of, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Of course I want it to be something he says on his own without feeling obligated to do so, so it's a bit of a delicate thing to approach, or maybe I don't approach it at all?

To say I love you to someone you have to feel connected and safe. He is not there yet. Yes he loves you still and admitted to it but before you go back to saying ILY you (and him) need to repair what caused the break up, and build back your connection.

Did you break up with him? If so, he might be feeling to vulnerable to say ILY.

Anyway, if you love him then tell him so.

I did not break up with him, he did me.

I've been tempted to say it, but I'm a little hesitant with not wanting to be put in that situation where I say it & he doesn't say it back. That's always awkward & of course doesn't bring about the most warm & fuzzy feelings.

You mention very valid points that make sense. Thank you, I hadn't really thought about those things.
