I'm nervous because I'm about to meet a girl that I've been talking to 4 months on a dating app. She lives in my home state and I'll be heading there in a couple weeks to visit. We have good chemistry and a playful vibe over text. However, I don't know how it will turn out when we meet. I tend to be more reserved/shy in person.

Should I be more formal and try to get to know her or should I carry the same playful vibe over from text? I admit this will be hard because talking for 4 months has given us a false sense of intimacy. It's not ideal to talk to someone for that long but it just happened to work out that way and we've been talking everyday for the past 4 months.

The last girl I talked to for 3 weeks before finally meeting fizzled out. I guess we didn't meet each other's expectations. For this current girl, we've already admitted that meeting up will be both exciting and terrifying. I've even joked that it might be very awkward.

How should I approach this? Should I act the same way in person as I do over text? I am a fun playful person in real life as well but it takes me time to warm up to someone. Thanks in advance.

Well building some sexual tension and excitement over text can be great...IF..you can actually back it up in person. However, you openly admit that you're shy and reserved. So why are you pretending to be something you're not?

In the end, authenticity is what matters. So if you're shy and reserved, I wouldn't try to put on an act and pretend to be the text version. Unless you two hit it off well in person and you're more comfortable being flirtatious.

Like FF said, you have to be authentic in both texting and in person. Definitely try to be the fun, playful person you normally are. Make eye contact, smile, and keep the conversation flowing by asking questions about her.

Since texting and meeting in person are totally different, it's best not to text so long before meeting someone. I usually just chat for a few days before meeting. Recently I was chatting with a woman online who was out of town for a couple of weeks so we couldn't meet until she returned. I checked in with her about once a week and told her to let me know when she was back in town so we could meet, and she did. There was very little communication in between.
