Els Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 As a Black woman, I'm really curious... What is the aversion to black men/women? I promise I'm not offended or trying to stir the pot, no one can help what they're attracted to and everyone's entitled to preferences. I'd just really be interested if someone could put into words what they find off-putting about black people physically. I love my features so it's hard for me to get why others don't like them lol. And I can't recall a time that I've been unable to appreciate other people's features regardless of their race. Not answering for the OP, but in general... some traditional Chinese are superstitious about the colour black - they believe it symbolizes death and is a bad omen. They ensure that there is nothing black in a celebration (e.g. Chinese New Year, weddings, etc). Of course, even with such superstitions, people aren't 'things' and shouldn't be treated that way... but yeah. Unfortunately this still happens. Back when I was living in Asia, there was this absolutely ridiculous TV advert about an old Chinese couple preparing their house for the Chinese New Year, talking about getting rid of everything 'black' in it. Their son shows up with his girlfriend - she's black, and the mother faints. This was on NATIONAL TV mind you, and considered totally okay! People laughed at it! I thought it was incredibly racist and distasteful, though. But it is what it is... 1

GunslingerRoland Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 It depends on the city/country you live in and how integrated it is. But I have lots of friends from Eastern Asia, and I don't see their culture in practice to be so overwhelming that it would be a barrier to dating.
TX-SC Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 There is nothing wrong with wanting to date within your own race. I would say I prefer southern women in general, though I have dated a couple of them from the north as well. I've never dated someone of a different race, though I wouldn't have been adverse to it. I think I just tend to gravitate towards a type. Again, it's just a matter of knowing that I have a thing for southern women. Date who you want to date and don't worry about what others think. 1
GunslingerRoland Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Date who you want to date and don't worry about what others think. I agree, to me the issue is when you try to tell other people not to date outside of their race.
Els Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I know the TV ad is a "joke", but would a traditional Chinese family actually think like that IRL? Some traditional families do, though they don't express it so overtly (they will be nice to the person's face, and talk behind their back). It isn't just black folks either, there is some stigma towards most types of interracial relationships. Fortunately much of Asia is modernizing so this has been decreasing, but it still exists.
ChickiePops Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I only date outside my race. Some people call it a preference, others call it a fetish. I don't care what people call it, I simply date men I find attractive and desirable to me. Back to you. I am somewhat familiar with Chinese culture. I mean no offense when I say this but at 26 your expiration date is coming up soon. In a couple of years available single Chinese men won't pick you because of your age so I think it's shooting yourself in the foot to not look outside your culture. If I were a Chinese woman I would date outside my race. I would never be able to deal with in-laws controlling my husband and controlling me. Every Chinese woman I know are practically slaves to their in-laws. No thank you. ..expiration date? Are you from 1955? Wait wait..don't tell me..you're the real life Marty McFly. ROFL!!! OP, please pay no attention to this archaic nonsense. Your 'expiration date' is not until you die.
SJS Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I think if you're looking for a similar culture, you will be limited to a specific race. Ultimately you're the one who will spend your life with that person, so it better be someone who you are attracted to physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc.
