I'm just wondering if any of you have heard the phrase, "She's a quality girl." What does it mean?

Posted

Well, It should mean what it says literally, but anytime I've heard someone spouting it, it's usually meant the man or his mother saying it was priggish or snobbish and are saying, She meets our high standards (sniff). I've heard total degenerates going on about finding a quality girl before, like someone with high standards or morals would be interested in their crazy selves.

Means that she's got a lot on the ball, more than the superficial; looks, intellect, personality, etc.

Seems fairly self explanatory to me. Perhaps it didn't make sense in the context? Why do you ask?

You just put into words what I was trying to formulate in my head. Especially about being priggish or snobbish.

I'm just wondering if you are called that if it's a complement or a put down.

You knew the definition of quality didn't you? Of course it wouldn't be a put down.

If their voice was dripping with sarcasm, it's a negative. If they sounded genuine, it's a positive.

Context!!

It's a compliment, as long as you don't mind being appraised like a brood mare.

Not sure.....Gotta wonder if its not like the way some women try to set up other (usually unattractive) women with guys, then when the guy asks "what does she look like"??

She says, "Well....she's a quality girl"......Uh....yeah great....."but what does she look like"?

Or maybe it means she doesn't put out easily???

Eh....kidding aside,....Maybe it just means what it says..?

as another poster said its all in the context whether a negative ro a positive comment....

it could also mean that she is looking for quality or looks out for it in a partner or anything really.......its all in context and defining that context said by whom for what reason....deb......

I would take the statement to mean she has good moral fiber, has ambition, not a gold digger or materialistic.

A joke there are no quality people

It really depends on context and the messenger. A lot of communication is not literal and requires reading between the lines to grasp the true meaning. That phrase is no exception.

It could be a genuine compliment. Or it could be patronizing or objectifying (intentionally or unintentionally). Or it could be sarcastic.

The person saying it could be condescending or snobby or elitist. Or she could simply be a little naive and somewhat lacking in social graces/awareness.

Or he could be a truly kind, tolerant and/or honorable person who just wanted to honestly express his appreciation...even though there are probably better ways to do so. Choosing one's words wisely is a skill...some people are adept at it, others are subpar at it and most people are probably somewhere in-between.

Anyway, I wouldn't read too much into the phrase by itself, OP. Just try to take it in stride. Pay more attention to the broader surrounding context...and if it's not already clear, it'll soon become apparent what the meaning was, and more importantly you'll have a clearer picture of the person's character.

It's a complement not a put down.

Like the girl has a lot going for herself. The kind of girl you'd want to be with.
