More than 25 years ago, all were met at school (4 or 5 lasted more than 3 months). In the past 20 years, all were met via OLD, and about 10 lasted more than 3 months (several lasted several years, one has lasted over 16 years and counting - there was overlap as some were poly relationships).

All of the typical ways others have mentioned - high school, college, work, OLD and so forth. Through friends and family. Unlike some of the others, I've had successful cold approaches.

High school: he "stalked" me by walking next to me while I walked home from school...jingling his keys to try to get my attention, but I was shy and wouldn't talk to him. So when that didn't work, he slipped a note into my locker - lasted just under 3 years

 

college: my roommate had a party, he attended. My roommate was playing her guitar. As he looked at me, he said to her, "play me a song to fall in love to" - corny, yes, but we lasted 5 years

 

23 years old - met online in a chat room. I had a crush on his best friend, but as we spent more time chatting with each other, and then met in person at a group bowling event, I realized I liked him more. But we decided that we'd become roommates and keep things platonic - that lasted a week, and our relationship lasted almost 9 years.

 

had a couple of online/long-distance relationships (yes, we did meet in person) through an online game I used to play, that lasted 9 months and 2 years.

 

Then took some time off from dating until I was 38 - met a guy on okcupid - he came on strong and things escalated, but then dropped off - we dated casually for about a year, then I moved in as a housemate and we transitioned to fwb until we had a falling out.

 

and my current one is pretty boring - also met on okcupid, but we started out slowly, and are still seeing each other 5 months later.

LTR1: Together for 1.5 years. She was my best friend`s cousin, was introduce to her at a party.

 

LTR2: Together for 8 years. Met at a night club, turned to be best friends with my sister`s best friend.

 

LTR3: Together for 4 years. She was my cousin`s friend. He introduce her to me on a random occasion, but apparently it was set up by his mother as i later found out.

Well I'm not asking how to get into a relationship under 3 months, one night fling or date. I'm not sure how to get in those and don't want to know. I always thought long term were higher quality.

 

By game, what do you mean? Sports game? Did your partner approach you? How did these come together?

 

Sorry, missed your question. I mean video game. There was a bunch of us in college who would get together after classes most days for that. So they didn't 'approach' me per se, as we met organically, but they did ask me out after we got to know each other.

5) At work, but it took 14 years for us to get together - 3yrs

6) Another bartender - 3yrs

7) Business transaction - 6yrs (and still going strong)
