I'm trying to get ideas with what works. I haven't dated in over 2 years.

Here are mine

- Middle School - bumped into her in the hallway on purpose, talked to her asked her out - lasted - 2 years

- High School - liked this girl, told her friend I liked her. Her friend said she needs someone - lasted 1 year

- High School - A girl asked me out I said yes - 7 months

- Subway - asked a girl where a venue was - she asked me for my number

- Europe Vacation - asked a girl out at a club

- Girl from my neighbourhood - started hanging out more and more, then asked her out - 5 years

- old friend - who dated an old friend which was long gone - hated that but was desparate - lasted 1 month - was not proud of that

- Dating site - met a girl for a fling - 3 months

- Girl who I knew liked me but I was in a relationship - contacted her when I was single she said yes - 1 year

Most were pretty classic:

* in school / in my classes

* at parties / in bars

* one fell asleep with his head on my shoulder while we were sitting on a line

* at a high school reunion

* at a business card exchange / networking event

Ironically the ways that didn't work (resulted in interactions lasting less than 3 months)

* OLD

* introductions from mutual friends

* singles events

Pretty much all of my long term relationships have been met through friends/acquantences.

Short lived were OLD, and randoms I had ONS with and tried to make it into something.

Thank you d0nnivain and crederer.

What is OLD? Do you mean "old" friends from the past that turned into intimate relationships? Or is OLD an acronym for something? Because you both listed it in caps.

I'd like to hear more responses from others as well.

I like a girl in class now, and she's set to tutor me. The situation seems so perfect and I'm scared I'm going to screw it up, or she's going to reject me. I wouldn't like that having another 4 months of school left. She told a mutual friend that I'm cute, then said I seem like a good person etc. I don't know how to take that, if it's just a simple observation or what.

I figure if the signs are there I will ask.

Me: High school age.....was walking along by a gas station and he asked me if I wanted to smoke a joint. (he was out of school/older) last 2 years

Saw him walk by in the college cafeteria, made eye contact a few times, he approached me. 5 years

Saw him at a club I worked at. Had mutual friends, got introduced. 26 years and counting.

I met and married a good friend's brother in law.

My OLD experience produced nothing but numbnuts.

- Game (10 mths)

- College (1.5 yrs)

- College (8 yrs?? Man I'm bad at counting...:laugh:)

I've never had a R that lasted less than 3 months, so not sure how that would work.

1. at a high school party I made a goofy comment to her as she walked past me in the hallway

2. was introduced to a friend's sister at his house

3. upstairs neighbor, we were friends for years first (and didn't get together until we lived apart)

4. friend of a coworker, was introduced at a bar

5. friend of a friend, again was introduced at a bar

6. met the current SO at a family barbecue of a friend of mine

There are a few others and most everyone I have met has been through friends or acquaintances. I can't think of any "cold approach" situations that panned out in the long term.

She was my older sister's best friend, 40 plus years.

Yeah OLD never worked out for me. I met an alcoholic girl from there.

I just find meeting people in real life is the best. Partly because you even see how they move.

Since my divorce, my LTRs all came from joining meetup groups and meeting people through those groups. I've also had good luck meeting guys at house parties thrown by friends and coworkers.

I also have gotten a lot of dates from OLD. I have one LTR from there. But the majority of the guys were just a few dates at most.

Well I'm not asking how to get into a relationship under 3 months, one night fling or date. I'm not sure how to get in those and don't want to know. I always thought long term were higher quality.

By game, what do you mean? Sports game? Did your partner approach you? How did these come together?

High school age – mutual friend hooked us up “You should really meet B, I think you would like him!” – that lasted for about a year and a half, till we parted ways for different colleges. First “I love you” – but looking back I call it puppy love.

College – Freshman year met someone within the first week, we had the same “core course” and started studying together. We “dated” for about 5 months until both of us decided being free to party and be crazy was better than being hitched up while in college.

College again – not a “love” but, a relationship of sorts – a close “FWB” situation that went on for well over a year. We met when I came to his place to check out a room for rent…..We dated others here and there, but still saw each other at least once a week – and had a very close / friendly relationship.

Sr. year in college – mutual friend kinda hooked us up. My friend was having a Halloween party, I needed a ride to it, he had a friend that would be passing by my place on his way to the party – and could give me a lift….. We hit it off, went on a date two days later, moved in together as soon as I graduated, and have been together ever since.
