Ahh! I just got back from a the birthday party of a friend of a friend. I don't mean to brag, but I came home with two phone numbers! One in particular was from a very cute, MENSA-y guy (who's 25, lol!!) who lives very close by me and is also a writer. He was a bit on the shy/awkward side, but I could tell he was trying to leave the party with my number, and we ended up connecting on LinkedIn as well.

It's been six months since my break-up, and I finally feel like I've got my mojo back. I don't even care if nothing comes from either of these guys, I'm just so happy to finally feel like I'm "back out there" in a real way.

Good stuff! Hard to believe that it's already been six months already. Where does time go? As one of my favorite posters on here, I am rooting for you!

Aww, thanks FF! I know, the time really does fly. It'll be six months though on March 11th. Not that I'm counting or anything ...

Awesome! There's nothing like getting back out there after a romantic let down and reminding yourself there's more fish in the sea. Good luck

Yes, or he could turn out be a condescending prat who uses his high intellect to cover up for his lack of emotional maturity. :p

We shall (hopefully) find out!

Let's hope he is - there's nothing quite like the fun of pushing those "but I'm smarter than you!" ppl's buttons. :p

I'm not saying you're dead-on, but every single MENSA member I've ever met was an insufferable d-ckweed with severe social impairments. MENSA basically lets you pay for membership as it is. I would be wary of anyone egotistical enough to affiliate themselves.

Enough about that. I'm so happy to hear that you're back in business! Even if you're miles above all these dudes, which you very well may be because you're the tallest, coolest drink of water around, there's nothing more exhilarating than feeling like yourself again. It's a reminder that you're alive, you're desirable, you're participating in the world around you. You're so much bigger than your hurt. You're YOU, and that is the best person you could possibly be.

Knock 'em dead, girlfriend---and keep us posted!

Oh, thanks girl. Such kind, awesome words!

To be fair, I'm not sure if he's actually a MENSA member, what I meant was he's a high IQ, low EQ kinda guy. Hopefully he's not insufferable.

We texted on and off throughout the evening last night. Part of me wants to just ask him to get a drink this evening, but a friend of mind pointed out that a problem I had in my last relationship was over-functioning. I got mad at her when she said it, but because she was right.

I don't want to fall into the overthinking hole, but let's say I don't do the asking out—how should I best convey interest in being asked out without actually pulling the trigger and asking? I also don't want to spend days/weeks speculating.

Whhhatt? Ok, let me tell you you're a little wrong here.

I affiliated in the tender age of 18 (on my 18th birthday haha, because it was not allowed to me a member earlier). My sister was going there between 10-12. I don't think there is anything egotistical of kids/ young people training their brains instead of (or in addition of) working out their bodies.

LA- smart writer young guy- great for you! I wish he's emotionally mature 25 yo and you have a lot more positive posts to share about him here!

In any case, once you're out there, you're out there. Your great new love is on the corner;)
