the girl im talking to (and has interest in me) says shes only slept with ONE guy (her ex bf) but over the summer she got an IUD although she claims to not be sexually active at all....

this might sound stupid but if she has an IUD doesnt that mean that shes sexually active or at least considering it?

An IUD is a device a doctor puts in for 5 years. You need an appointment, then once it's in you can have side effects for 3 months meaning a period that will last around 3 months. It's a long term method of contraception. It doesn't matter if you have a boyfriend or not. You have it put in and you are set for the next 5 years. I am sure she is considering having sex (a boyfriend) in the next 5 years .

Indeed - and even worse - it could be for 10!! years depending on the IUD type.

The whole question is tacky. E.g. I was on Nuvaring and not sexually active for about an year. I had 1 (one) sexual partner before that. I was 28.

Why? I didn't want to mess my cycle by getting off and then whenever time comes - on, hormones (Nuvaring) again. These are prescription drugs, I feel like some people forget it ...

Ever thought she might be getting it in the hopes of acquiring a boyfriend in the near future? There's a real possibility that's the absolute truth, women are like that. We tend to future plan. It appears that you just want to find a reason to not believe her. If this is your stance then maybe you're not attracted to her and should just move on.

It's not a dumb question, just a young question. Birth control for men is easy. You guys can carry around a tiny little package in your pocket, whip it out when needed. For women, we have to plan ahead. You're supposed to be on the pill for at least a month before having sex. Unless she wants to mess with a diaphragm, but I've only known one woman my age who used one of those. Anyway it doesn't necessarily mean she's active, but it means she's ready to be active. Yay for you :)

The better question is why is she talking to you about her IUD if she's not having sex with you yet? lol.

You didn't mentioned whether this woman has Mirena or the Paraguard IUD.

A lot of women have hormonal issues with acne, cramps, PMS, etc. It's pretty common for doctors to recommend hormonal birth control of some sort like the pill or IUD to mask those issues. It doesn't necessarily need to be used for contraception.

The only reason you know she has an IUD is because she chose to tell you...

Think about that for a moment....

There you go...lightbulb moment...right?

If she is sexually active, it is none of your business at this time or how many she has been with. Don't start placing judgment on her because she is on birth control. To me that means she is being responsible.

If she's using the Mirena IUD, it could also be to sort out menstruation issues. But even if it's only for contraception, being prepared is an excellent choice.

Of course it does. But still use a condom. Enjoy!

IUD can help with issues other than preventing pregnancy. Maybe she just decided to get it done to be safe for the future? I have an implant and I have not had sex for over a year and half (boo!). Anyway my contraceptive implant is still there and actually it doesn't inspire any desire to go mad and shag every man in close proximity to me. I first got it when I had a bf and decided not to get it removed until it ran out as it wasn't causing me any issues.
