Those POF profile copyright disclaimers?

Something I'm starting to notice is people, putting at the bottom, some kind of long-winded disclaimer about using their photos from the site, somewhere else for commercial use.

A different sounding disclaimer mentioned ("The Berner Convention) whatever that is. One disclaimer was so long winded that it took up have the person's "About me" section. LOL

But is it really, really necessary to do this? I'm figuring does this even hold water? Is this really a serious concern ?

It is laughable. What are they going to do if someone copies their profile, sue? Good luck with that.

Suing someone they can't even trace, in an unknown country, for copying something they wrote on a privately-owned dating site based in another country (POF is hosted in Canada), for something that caused them absolutely no damages?

Who exactly are they going to take action against? Send their (probably US) court summons to "xxxsweetlittlecopycatxxx" @ POF.com?

It holds about as much water as a rubber band.

I always thought it was a bit funny when I read those, like somewhere along the way they read that they should have it on there and then did it without thinking about it. Lemmings.

Doubt it would hold water. One has to realize that once you put yourself out there, well.........

People aren't going to be civilized and respectful. For example, if someone posted snippets of my profile on a forum, and others were able to google it and find me, well, yea, how could I be upset?
