scooter62788 Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Is it normal to want to cheat on your girlfriend after you have been having sex for a couple of weeks? I have been having these urges to cheat on her with another girl. My friends say the same about the way they feel. Is it normal?
mark1210 Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 My $0.02 Obviously if that thought has entered your head I would say you need to re-evaluate what you really want. You aren't satisfied in one way or another, perhaps she wasn't challenging enough or just not your cup of tea. My vote is do you and her a favor and go for what really makes you happy. Its best for the both of you. Not doing so only postpones the inevitable breakup.

You can't even call her your G/F if you have only been together for a couple of weeks. You just want to hit it and now you want to move on. Give her some respect and leave her the f alone. She deserves better than you.
sarah12 Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I've heard this from guy friends who have LTR's of at least 2+ years. Two of them have confessed having serious urges to cheat and mentioned that this feeling goes for all of the guys in our group of friends, leading me to believe that most men do have these feelings, but not every one carries through with it. They seemed to feel very strong urges and confessed they had feelings for us females in the group.

It may be somewhat normal to wonder about those kinds of things after being with only one person for the long term, but after just a few weeks, if you're already tempted to be with someone else, what hope is there for the long term?

I was thinking it would be the opposite - that most people would stop wondering after 2+ years. To me, it seems that there should be no wondering if you've been with the person for so long. I mean, things must be good if you're still together, so what's there to wonder?

I think it's a matter of wondering about the different/unknown after having so much of the same thing. If there's something you really like, such as steak (not me personally, but most people seem to like it), and you get to eat for 2 weeks, you're really happy about it. You're not thinking about what that chicken somebody else is eating might be like. You're just enjoying your steak, because it's so good. After 2 years of just steak, you'd naturally start to wonder how the chicken or even the soup might taste. Even if you still love steak and wouldn't trade it for the world, the fantasy of how good that chicken might be would still enter your mind. And while you like to imagine what the chicken would be like, you know that if you had the chicken, you'd like it for awhile, but you'd regret it and miss the steak. So, you don't take the chance of permanently missing out on steak just to have one taste of chicken.
