ThisisIt606 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 My bf and I have been dating about 8 months. He's been very stressed as of late with a job change. New job is much more work and he's anxious about performing well and may be working longer days. I ordered something I know he likes and had it set to his place to be delivered on VAlentines Day. I also got him a card that I'll mail. He hasn't said anything about Valentine's Day so I have no idea if he remembered/ has anything planned for me with his new job stress and work travel this week. I'm getting him the gift and card simply bc I want to and I care about him. With that said, I have no freaking clue what to write in the card! I'm not a very sentimental/ mushy person and we haven't said I love you yet. The card itself strikes a good balance with the outside saying " wishing you love in every part of your life" and " I'm glad your part of mine. Happy Valentine's Day" on the inside. I was thinking of writing something along the lines that I'm not a very mushy person, but do enjoy buying cards and gifts. Then saying it's always fun spending time with him and listing 3 things I appreciated he has done for me so far. Then just giving him an FYI that something will be arriving at his house on the 14th and joking its not a giant stiffened bear ( we made fun of a commercial we saw) or singing telegram ( he knows I've jokingly mentioned sending them to people) Basically I'm trying to set a tone that even though I'm mostly goofy with him, I do really care and starting to love him... But don't want to get too mushy bc that's just not my personality/ I'm not comfortable with that 1
d0nnivain Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 What you are thinking is wonderful. Go with it 2
jen1447 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 How about "best wishes and good luck."? Srsly sometimes it helps to think of what you wouldn't write on the other end of the spectrum and then finding the middle ground.
preraph Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I always kept it simple. I let the message on the card say it and I would sign it with either (depending level of involvement) "XX, my name" (good for anyone but it's still kisses!) or I'd put my lipstick print on the card and name through it (also good for just about anyone) or sign it "Love, my name" and maybe also the lipstick. Guys always love the lip print. 1
Robratory Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Well, you know, between mushy and aloof, there's a third path -- authenticity. What do you feel? You say you are "mostly goofy with him," but that you "do really care" for him. What you have in mind is great, but consider dropping the part where you say you're not mushy and definitely don't list the three things with bullets, like it was a PowerPoint presentation. You know what works sometimes? Poetry that is obviously not meant seriously. It takes effort but it's not creepy if it's light-hearted. A rap-like thing just occurred to me. I love hanging with you Cuz you let me be goofy And never, not once, Have you slipped me a roofie! The worse the "poetry" is, the better. 1
losangelena Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I second the notion of something simple yet authentic. Nothing is worse than getting a card with just a signed name. My ex did that all the time, and I was like, what do you mean? Can you not articulate how you feel about me, or do you not really have feelings for me? In my case, I feel like it ended up being the latter. So, if you can find even a simple way to articulate how you feel, write that. It doesn't have to be mushy. 2
