Robratory Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I actually don't prefer to be asked on the first date because it puts a lot of pressure - and I have accepted second dates that I would normally have not, because it was awkward to decline. What you say makes it sound like you want to leave the date and then ignore the guys texts and calls or, if he happens to catch you, give him some kind of run-around that he interprets as "maybe," so he continues to contact you until he finally understands that you're just not into him. Isn't that even more awkward? It should never be awkward to state what you want within the boundaries of etiquette. If you can't say, "Oh, thanks, but I don't think so," you can always say, "I don't know... I'll have to see... my Aunt's coming to town, and I have to take my cat to get fixed, plus I do my hair on Wednesday, and then on Thursday, oh, I don't know... text me later." He should get the idea.
